In Torino, per gl'heredi di Gio. Domenico Tarino, 1619 (16), 342, (18); 86 pp. Contemporary full vellum with hand-lettered title on spine. Boards soiled and yellowed, rear board with tiny tear at upper margin, paste-down endpapers with some tears and creases. Owner's book-plate on paste-down endpaper, title-leaf and last page with ex-library stamps. Page [15] with chip at upper corner, pages 155-158 with tiny tear at upper margin, interior else with some occasional foxing. Paolo Filippi (1575-1610) was an Italian poet and secretary of Carlo Emanuele I of the Savoy. This is mainly a collection of his letters to prominent people, but does also contain some of his poetry as well.

Berlin, 1902 34, (2) pp. + 14 plates with a total of 27 illustrations + 1 fold-out map. Near contemporary quarter cloth binding with marbled boards, original printed wrapper preserved. Spine and edges of boards slightly rubbed, spine with with simple, hand-lettered spine label, the preserved front wrapper with tiny inscription at upper edge. The fold-out map with 17 cm tear in one of the folds, interior else fine. The title-leaf with the stamp of the Reichskolonialbund, the collective body which reportedly absorbed the Deutsche Kolonialgesellschaft as well as all the other colonial organisations during the time of the Third Reich. Report from the Deutsche Koloniegesellschaft on the suitability of a potential settlement in the West Usambara region of today's Tanzania.

Contemporary half calf, spine gilt, rather worn, front hinge slightly weak, a few stain and minor tears but overall a good copy.

Contemporary full calf, spine gilt, a few corners worn, one corner of a leaf torn, some pencil annotations in the margins, otherwise a very good and attractive set. With Hungarian banquer and book collector Arpad Plesch's book-plate on free endpaper and also with the book-plate of Comte Alain de Vergennes.
