A bit of edgewear and soiling to the binding. Small crack to the back hinge and top of spine with small part missing. A couple of worm holes to the back board leather, not going through the board. Some leaves with old worm holes to the margins, not affecting text. Names to the verso of the free front pastedown. Bookplate inserted. * Blaise Pascal [1623-1662] wrote this work anbonymously [originally published in 1656-57] and formed it as a series of letters from a 'Louis de Montalte'. It was an ironic and harsh attack on the jesuits and was partly banned by both the pope and King Louis XIV. Nevertheless, the book was well read throughout Europe.

Nice copy of the Elzevir edition of this classic account of the life of Alexander the Great. Wiith the supplement by Johann Freinsheim.

10 bind i 8 (det udkomne) Græbes Bogtrykkeri, København 1895-1910. 4to. Rigt illustreret i s/h (bl.a. med fotogravurer). Uniforme samtidige halvbind af brunt kalveskind med rygforgyldning. Exlibris. Navn på fribladet i hvert bind. Ryggene let falmet. Et par rygge med småskrammer. * Det udkomne af dette ambitiøst tænkte storværk. Hensigten var intet mindre end at føre samtlige danske malede portrætter til protokols samt at få gengivet så mange som muligt - dette afhang af særskilte donationer, som man gerne søgte billedernes ejere om. Værket udkom i større og mindre hefter og ses på grund af den lange tilblivelsestid sjældent komplet. Det er og bliver en torso, men rummer glimrende information om kunst og personalhistorie. Alene de to bind med katalogisering af portrætterne og miniaturesamlingen på Rosenborg er et hovedværk på sit felt - museet har beklageligvis aldrig skabt nogen afløser for Lunds arbejde. Hertil kommer oplysninger om portrætter på epitafier, i udenlandsk eje samt rundt om på landets herregårde, hvorfra mange få år senere spredtes for alle vinde.

He later went on to publish several books as freelancer - most notably 'Office' from 2001. **Published in conjunction with an exhibition at Hasselblad Center, Stockholm.

Old name to the titleleaf, dated 1637. * Early reprint of the first biography of St. Ignatius of Loyala (1491-1556, founder of the Jesuit order), originally published in 1572. The author Ribadeneira (1527-1611) was himself a Jesuit and had tried to establish a Jesuit order in London during the reign of the Catholic Queen Mary I of England (more commonly known as Bloody Mary), but the idea was deserted at her death, when England returned to the Church of England during the reign of Elizabeth I.

Contemporary full vellum binding with gilt ornaments to the spine and boards, including the gilt coat-of-arms of the City of Amsterdam on front and back board. * Phaedrus [c. 15 B.C. -50 A.D.], a Greek slave in Rome, made fables in the style of Aesop. Lovely copy of the edition by Pieter Burman (1668-1741).

Bogen vakte myndighedernes mishag på grund af bl.a. forfatterens betragtninger over Bornholms befrielse fra svenskerne i 1658, dens status som kongens "arve-ø" samt Frederik III's fængsling af Corfitz Ulfeldt på Hammershus. Det kostede den unge Skougaard et kort fængselsophold, mens de usogte eksemplarer af bogen blev beslaglagt.

Late 19th century full calf binding with armorial superexlibris to the upper board ['L(udovic) Bouland']. Inner boards with gilt frames. Bouland's own endpaper with 'L', 'B' and fleur de lis. Med træskåret gengivelse af Københavns (nye) byvåben (1661). Samtidigt pergamentbind med lidt senere håndskrevet rygtitelfelt. Exlibris. Titelbladet plettet og med gamle navnetræk. Bindet med overfladisk aldersslitage. * Righoldigt historisk og kulturhistorisk materiale, der dækker Christian IV's sidste og Frederik III's første armodige regeringsår, Svenskekrigene og ikke mindst enevældens indførelse i 1660 og den begyndende gennemregulering af samfundet. Materialet omfatter bl.a. en trykt beretning om Arvehyldingen 23. oktober 1660 med gengivelse af den ed, høj (navnlig) og lav skulle sværge til Frederik III foran Børsen.
