Titleleaf in nice facsimile on contemporary paper. Vellum with some staining, including small green paint(?) stains to spine. Topedge dustsoiled. Foreedge with a stain along lower board. Modern handwritten notes in pencil to front free endpaper and rear pastedown. Two very small burn marks to pages 175/176. Wormhole through the margins of pp 176-188, well outside text. * Ruscelli (ca. 1518-1566) lent his hand to many trades in and associated with the creation of books, both in regard to printing (he partnered with the printer Pietrasanta in 1555) and in writing in several genres. From translations of well-known classics to a book on alchemy. He was fined 50 ducats after having been tried by the Inquisition in 1555 for writing a satirical poem.

Small parts of the top of the spine missing. Spine with superficial cracks. Some dampstaining to the first leaves, a section of leaves in the book, and to the last plates. * Scarce. Oeder [1728-91] wrote this book on Danish botany alongside publishing the most beautiful botanical work of Scandinavia, the renowed Flora Danica [1761-1883]. The plates for the present book are somewhat more modest, but are still called "Flora Danica" in the top corner.

Illustrated with a portrait of Petit to the frontespiece and 90 copperplate engravings of surgery tools (30 in each volume, 4 foldable [complete]). Bound in contemporary full mottled calf bindings. The spine of volume 3 repaired with new leather, missing the gilt ornaments of the other bindings. Top of the spines of vol. 1-2 with minor restoration. The lower corner of the back board of volume 1 with a loss of leather (and a little limp). * Third edition of this posthumously printed treatise on surgery, but Petet [1674-1750], the most acclaimed surgeon of the 18th century.

The spine has been restored with white cloth and the original vellum backstrip [with a couple of closed cracks] has been reattached, making it a solid and readable copy [unlike many others where the vellum is brittle and the hinges cracked]. Binding a bit rubbed and soiled and with slight edgewear. * Signed by Rackham. Number 21 of 200 numbered copies made for the US [of a total of 775 copies, with 575 copies for the UK].** Beautiful edition of Goldsmith's classic 18th century novel.

Uden det store foldede kobberstukne portræt af Niels Juel, der følger eksemplarerne på skrivepapir. Senere helbind af sort gedeskind. Siderne temmelig plettede indtil s. 323. Side 235-238 meget plettede og med rifter. Bageste del af bogen med skjold nederst på siderne. * Udgave på almindeligt papir af den i enhver henseende enorme ligprædiken fra bisættelsen af generaladmiralløjtnant Niels Juel, der døde i sit palæ på Kongens Nytorv (i dag den franske ambassade) i 1697. Peter Jespersen (1647-1714) var kongelig konfessionarius, Christian den Femtes personlige præst. Ligprædikenen består, som formatet foreskriver, af en lang tale over forskellige bibelcitater, fortællingen om Niels Juels sidste dage og, hvad gør denne genre så væsentlig, en lang personalhistorisk redegørelse om Niels Juels adelige afstamning, hans liv og bedrifter. Bogen er med andre ord den første biografi over den største af alle danske søhelte. Traditionen tro er Peter Jespersens arbejder suppleret med en lang række æredigte af andre. Bogen rummer således en meget lang række førstetryk af Thomas Kingo, der stod Niels Juel nær, ikke mindst som biskop over Fyns stift, der jo også omfattede Tåsinge og Valdemars Slot, Niels Juels gods og landlige residens. Kingos bidrag omfatter blandt andet hele den suite af biografiske digte, der efterfølgende huggedes i marmor på Juels store gravmæle i Holmens Kirkes kapel, herunder det centrale digt, som alle med en ældre dansk studentereksamen har mødt: "Staa Vandringsmand, og skue en Søe-Helt an i Steen .. ". ** Tingene hænger sammen i Danmarkshistorien. Ved tronskiftet i 1699 fortsatte Peter Jespersen som hofpræst for Frederik den Fjerde. Og det var Jespersen, der i 1704 eller 1705 præsenterede kongen for Peter Wessel fra Trondhjem. Wessel var stukket hjemmefra og fået logi hos Jespersen, der var han fars ungdomsven. Jespersen første utvivlsomt pennen, da den unge norske hedspore efterfølgende søgte monarken om optagelse som søkadet, Resten er som bekendt dansk-norsk søkrigshistorie af den allerbedste slags. Fuldstændig ligesom Niels Juels.

Meget velbevaret.(Grafik/Prints). * Smukt udført og monumentalt litografi af slaget ved Isted efter maleri af Niels Simonsen. Paulsen nr. 301.** Billedet gengiver en kendt episode under slaget ved Isted, hvor Den Kongelige Livgarde danner karré og afviser et slesvig-holstensk kavalleri-angreb. Fraregnet begivenhederne d. 9. april 1940 er dette sidste gang, Livgarden var i egentlig kamp.*** Niels Simonsen gjorde Treårskrigen med ved fronten og har leveret en meget lang række billeder af soldatertyper og begivenheder. Han var dog ikke på slagmarken under selve Isted-slaget, men besøgte den bagefter og skaffede sig omhyggeligt øjenvidneberetninger fra deltagere i slaget.
