4 bind.

Landscape folio size [40 x 62 cm]. 8 pages of text + 21 b/w plates + the overview plate. Loose in the original folder with ties and typographical title label. Some foxing and edgewear to the leaves. A closed tear to the dedication leaf. The folder stained and with edgewear. Overall condition: Good++. * In 1812 Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen [Thorwaldsen] [1770-1844] was asked to do a frieze of Alesander the Great's entry into Babylon for Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome. He made a magnificent 35 meter long frieze, but also made another copy, as he had an idea of making a business of it. He actually came to sell several copies of it, but this book depicts the copy he made for Christiansborg Slot in Denmark, for which he had to swear that he would do some modifications, so it would be a new and original piece of art.** Quite scarce in this original 1835 edition; the book was reissued several times during the second half of the 19th century.*** Bookplate inserted from Adolf Fischer, and thus for his son Erik Fischer, a Danish expert on engravings.
