The Third Edition. Printed for Ro. Allot, London 1627. 4to (in sixes). (4)+309+(1 blank) pages. Missing the last blank leaf. Illustrated with three full page engravings [including the titleleaf] and numerous engravings in the text. Bound with the original calf preserved to the boards, but with 20th century morocco to the spine and corners. Old owner's number inserted to the new pastedown. Tiny burnhole to the margin of leaf R6, not affecting text. Leaves X5-6 with restoration the lower corners, not affecting text. Leaf Aa4 with restoration along the edges of the statue of Emperor Commodus, not affecting the engraving nor the text to the verso. Some leaves with dampstaining. A good+ copy. * Highly interesting book on the Middle East and especially on Egypt; Sandys [1568-1648] had to make quite a bit of guessing regarding the pyramids and the history of Egypt.** The ESTC entry [S114571] calls for two plates besides the titleleaf, whereof one is an engraved map. This copy collates differently, as the map is replaced with the allegorical engraving of the Nile.

Verlag von Wiedemann. Teubner, Leipzig 1850. VI+(2)+239+(1) pages. Untrimmed copy with the original printed and illustrated soft cover. Well-preserved copy. * The first issue of the German edition of Andersen's stories, with 75 woodcut illustrations by Danish artist and naval officer Vilhelm Pedersen (1820-1859). Pedersen did the 112 + 13 illustrations to the Leipzig editions of Gesammelte Märchen (1849 & 1850). The illustrations were produced on the common initiative of Andersen himself and his German publisher Carl B. Lorck in Leipzig. Vilhelm Pedersen was hired to make drawings, which were sent to Leipzig to be cut into wood before printed and published. Lorck had the woodblocks cast in zink, that were sent back to Denmark. Though the Danish illustrated edition of 'Historier' (1855) preceded the German edition from 1856, the latter is printed with the original woodblocks.
