3 works in three volumes. 4to. 3 half-titles, 3 engraved titles, (Voyage): Folding map of the Yemen, hand-coloured in outline with Niebuhr’s route. 124 engraved plates, plans and maps (comprising: 32 maps and plans (8 folding), 92 plates (31 folding) and 1 large folding map of the Yemen, hand-coloured in outline (misbound from the Description). (Description): 24 engraved plates, plans and maps (comprising 6 maps (5 folding), 18 plates (3 folding, of which 2 hand-coloured) 1 folding table. The large map of Yemen bound into the Voyage). Finely bound in near contemporary full calf, spines gilt in six compartments, red and green morocco labels. Gilt border to covers. Extremities a little rubbed and chipped, some splitting to joints but holding firm. . . First edition in French of the first and third work, second edition of the second work. Carsten Niebuhr the only survivor of the expedition sent out by Kong Frederik V of Denmark to Arabia.

Red leather label. Bookplate on front pastedown (Lord Lilford). Rebacked.. . First English edition. Struys made his voyages between 1647 and 1672. He recounts the revolt of Stenko Radzin, chief of the Cossacks, against the Czar of Russia. The plates depict many unusual scenes from the author`s own sketches, a map of the Caspian Sea, views of cities such as Ispahan, Persepolis, Muschati, Seras, Gammeron, Astracan &c.
