Paris, Le Terrain Vague, 1967-69. 27x20. 84+XVI; 88+XIV; 96+XVI; 16; 16; 48; 50 pp. Bound with all the pictorial wrappers in one volume, fine half black cloth (nos. 4 and 5 were issued "hors série" without wrappers). A complete set of this magazine produced by latter-day Surrealists - according to its director Jean Schuster, the final issue of l'Archibras was the last manifestation of Surrealism as an organised movement in France. The 1968 issues reflect the students' revolt in Paris. In 1984, Claude Courtot - one of those most active in L'Archibras - recalled that the events of 1968 unexpectedly exceeded anything the group had imagined: "We were almost marginalized by it. We felt we had been surpassed". The special June 1968 issue was urgently compiled as a collection of seething declarations in support of the rebels, and L'Archibras was outlawed when the Paris revolts collapsed; those involved in producing it were charged with public incitement to crime, offenses against the office of the President of the Republic, and the slander of police officers.

"In a sense, 'Where the City Stands' was a summary of Ashbee's work and ideas in the ten years since the liquidation of the Guild ... Stuttgart 1927. 29x22. IV+80 pp. 75 photos and renderings and 27 plans, sections, etc. Printed wrappers, in rarely seen pictorial dust jacket. The jacket is lightly discolured in top margin, and the jacket flap folds have been neatly strenghtened on the inside. Loosely inserted is a leaf with the publisher's advertisement for the book. (Die Baubücher, 1). After working with Mendelsohn, Neutra moved to the United States in 1923. "Wie baut Amerika" chronicles his search for an architectural vision based upon American construction and transportation practices, its central theme being the emergence of a new beauty conditioned by American technological promises. The message is brought home with a variety of illustrative examples, including in-depth studies of the Palmer House hotel in Chicago by Holabird and Roche and a terraced house row by Schindler in La Jolla. A key source to the role of Functionalist aesthetics as a link between rationalised technology and modern architectural ideals.

Paris 1862. 62x48. 16 pp. + 40 lithographed plates including 15 richly coloured chromolithographs and four monocolour. Publisher's printed cloth-backed boards, exterior darkened and slightly rubbed, neatly rebacked. Some text leaf margins neatly strengthed, mild foxing to some plates and text leaves as usual. A pioneering documentation of Swedish mediaeval church paintings, lithographed after reproductions made on location by Mandelgren. In 1846 he had been granted appropriations to explore and document the art of Swedish mediaeval churches, with emphasis on the interior paintings. Following a conflict with the Director-General of the National Heritage Board however, the material was not published in Sweden. Mandelgren made all the lithographs himself, and the work appeared in parts in Copenhagen and Paris between 1855 and 1862, before the final result was published in Paris with a dedication the Emperor Napoleon III. On two of the plates there are elevations, sections, plans and detail drawings of churches, the others show wall and ceiling paintings and decorations.
