Uniformly bound untrimmed in publisher's red cloth with printed spine labels. A very good, well-preserved set, spines slightly faded with darkened labels, edges slightly dusty; contents fine. Former owner's bookplate on front endpapers. A complete set of the classic eight-volume plus supplement catalogue compiled by the British art dealer who developed the concept of the Catalogue Raisonné. According to the impressums the books were published by Smith & Son 1829-42 and printed by James Skinner & Co. in Edinburgh. The first two volumes, however, contain an additional printed notice to the effect that they were reprinted in 1908 for Sands and Company, London and Edinburgh, in an edition limited to 1250 copies.

"Andra öfversedda, tillökta och delvis omarbetade upplagan", den sista med de gamla svenska måttangivelserna. En tredje upplaga utgavs 1890 med måtten omräknade till metersystemet.

"14e édition" on the base of front wrapper may be regarded as a continuation of the fictive designation of the 1923 first edition printings, most extant copies of which are marked "5e édition". (Collection de "L'Esprit Nouveau"). 'Vers une Architecture' originally appeared in 1923 under the name "Le Corbusier-Saugnier" which was the joint pseudonym under which Charles-Edouard Jeanneret and Amedée Ozenfant first published the texts in their magazine L'Esprit Nouveau. This new edition was revised and extended by Jeanneret who dropped the "Saugnier", thus taking the whole credit for the texts.

A collection of articles on town building by Le Corbusier first published in 1925 with a number of fictitious edition designations. Partly drawn from the magazine 'L'Esprit Nouveau' published by Le Corbusier and Amedée Ozenfant, the book includes a presentation of the 'Ville Contemporain' project for a modern city which is illustrated on the large folding plate.

First edition of the first book to present Adolf Loos's radical theories on design first "spoken into he void" in the Viennese 'Neue Freie Presse' and other magazines. The texts became an important influence on the Viennese avant-garde circles, although rejected by established Austrian and German publishers - in a preface Loos gives an account of the controversial publishing history of the book.
