Philadelphia, Stickley Company, 1982. 8vo. 144 pp. Illustrated. With index. Publisher's cloth, pictorial dustjacket (lightly worn). Inscribed by the author to Bengt Lagerkvist. Third edition. - - - Covers, among other things, the impact on art and creativity from psychosomatic disorders and neuroses, mental illness, congenital malformations, age-related diseases, vision and hearing impairment, agonizing pain, tuberculosis and "miscellaneous physical illnesses". - - - (Publisher:) "Disease makes a difference. In his book Philip Sandblom shows how illness affects the work of writers, artists and composers. Who is he? Doctor Philip Sandblom is a great surgical leader and, as president of the University of Lund, Sweden, his leadership encompassed the broad scope of an entire academic community. His analyses of 'The Role of the University in the World of Violence' and 'The difference in Men' contributed significantly to an appreciation of these most pertinent problems. This edition includes discussions of the poet Christian Morgenstern, painter Frida Kahlo, and composer Gustav Mahler. Annotations are included from Manilius, Baudelaire, Jean Cocteau, Proust, Montaigne and Ben Jonson. The Epilogue has been rewritten to set right some misunderstandings arising from the first edition. Finally, there are five more illustrations: a self portrait by Frida Kahlo, a portrait of Samuel Ödman, a facsimile from Mahler, a drawing of Beethoven and two colour pictures from Monet".

Stockholm, Nationalmuseum, 2022. 4:o. 240 sid. Påkostad volym, rikligt illustrerad med Strömholms svartvita fotografier. Silverpräglat förlagsband, dek. skyddsomslag. Nyskick. Utgiven för en utställning på Nationalmuseum 6 oktober 2022-8 januari 2023. - - - (Nationalmusei utställningskatalog nr 691.) - - - "Christer Strömholm - Portraits in Paris", in Swedish, a beautifully produced hardbound volume for an exhibition at the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, in 2022-3, richly illustrated with black & white photos by Strömholm. Very fine. - - - After the Second World War, many artists gathered in Paris. Swedish artists, writers and photographers went there too. In addition to Strömholm, for example Rune Hassner and Tore Johnson. This book focuses on the artists' portraits which Strömholm's took during his years in Paris. He photographed the greats of the time, such as Yves Klein, Fernand Léger and Max Ernst. But he also depicted the intense evening life in which he himself participated. And he photographed his friends, such as the poet Paul Andersson and Pontus Hulten. Many of these images have rarely been shown before. You could say that it adds another piece of the puzzle to the story of Christer Strömholm.
