* The first official autobiography by Hans Christian Andersen, which was published as part of a German edition of his collected works in 1847. A Danish edition of was not published until 1942; an English, however, already later in 1847. Prior to this autobiography, Andersen had written a private text for the family Collin in Copenhagen, his mentors and supporters through the first difficult years, first published in 1926. 'Das Märchen meines Lebens' for the first time links Andersen's entire production closely to the 'fairy tale' of his life and consolidated his European fame.
