Association copy: Inscribed by the Vilhelm Maar (1923) to Vilhelm Møller Christensen (Danish doctor and pioneer in the study of leprocy). ** Text in Latin, French and Italian. The authoritative edition of Steno's medical and scientific works with detailed notes in English. Besides being a pioneer in such diverse fields as medicine and geology (contained in these volumes), the Danish scientist Niels Stensen (1638-86) converted from his Lutheran faith and ended up being a Catholic bishop. Born in central Copenhagen, he ended up in Florence where re rests in a Roman sarcophagus in the San Lorenzo Church. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1988.
