Illustrated with copperplate engravings to the titleleaves, woodcut illustrations in the text, full page woodcuts of astronomical devices and a printer's device. Bound in a contemporary full vellum binding with handwritten title to the spine. Inner front hinges a bit open, but still holding firmly. Old note to the verso of the flyleaf. Some browning to the leaves. The right margin is a bit wrinkled to the last few leaves. Still a very attractive copy indeed.

* Collected edition of two of the most important works of renowned astronomer Brahe [1546-1601]: The first part 'De nova stella' was originally published in 1573 and contains his groundbreaking work on a new and brightly shining star in the firmament, that astronomical observers until then had thought completely fixed and unchangeble by the hand of God. He had in fact observed a supernova, now named after the 'nova' of his work. The second part 'De cometa anni 1577' (originally published in 1588) is his observations of a comet in 1577-78. Brahes scientific approach to observing the night sky defined astronomical precision and scientific precision as such for many, many years.
