First printing of a classic paper in organic chemistry in which Gerhardt breaks with the conceptions of dualism and pre-existing radicals, and sets forth his "Theory of Residues". The October-issue also contains Gerhards paper "Recherches chimiques sur l'Hellénine", pp. 163-183. (A subject for his doctoral thesis in 1840). "A new aspect was given to the substitution-type theory by Gerhardt, who explained the formation of organic compounds as due to "pairing" or "copulation" of residues."(Findlay "A Hundred years of Chemistry" p. 30 ff).

First edition of this lexicon on the antiquity, each entry with information on the source. Mindre ubetydeligt vandskjold i ydre margin af bind 1. Indlagt i to pæne nyere kassetter. Særdeles nydeligt eksemplar af originaludgaven af Bredahls berømte skuespil. Bibl. Dan. IV 312.Christian Hviid Bredahl finansierede selv udgivelsen af de to første bind, hvorefter han afbrød arbejdet og virkede som bonde i Sorø i nogle år. Endeligt gjorde en indsamling det muligt at få resten af værket udgivet i 1833.

Alfred Proessdorf (1882-1925)He was born in Leipzig and was educated in Düsseldorf. He moved to Sweden and Gothenburg. He worked for satirical magazines, such as Sunday-Nisse and Rattle. Images are often elegant and gives a good idea of style in clothes and furnishings.He also worked with graphics, painting and theater decoration. He did the costumes for E. Bauer revues 1919-1923.

(2) pp. This is an original plate from Goulds great work "The Birds of Great Britain", issued between 1862 and 1873. The plates in this work were executed by Gould himself, and a few by J. Wolf, H.C. Richer and Hart. Together with Audubon's plates, the Gould-plates are considered the best bird-art ever produced, AND THE PLATES IN HIS "BIRDS OF GREAT BRITAIN" ARE THE PEAK OF GOULD'S ARTISTIC LIFE. In the foreword Gould stresses the difference from his "Birds of Europe" in the treatment of the illustrations, the inclusion here of the figures of the baby birds and nests, and he comments "Many of the public are quite unaware how the colouring of these large plates is accomplished; and not a few believe that they are produced by some mechanical process or by chromo-lithography. This, however is not the case; every sky with its varied tints and every feather of each bird were coloured by hand; and when it is considered that nearly two hundred and eighty thousand illustrations in the present work have been so treated, it will most likely cause some astonishment to those who give the subject a thought.". Duperrey was the first to put together on a map the whole Gilbert Islands archipelago with the name given to it by Admiral Krusenstern after the British Captain Thomas Gilbert, who crossed the archipelago in 1788. Duperrey commanded La Coquille on its circumnavigation of the earth (1822-1825).
