Widemargined, a few scattered brownspots. Some leaves in lower right corner with a wormtract, no loss of letters. First printing of these 9 papers by the wellknown French chemist. Proust formulated the "Law of constant proportion" which lead to the controversy with Berthollet.

Small paper-label pasted on to top of spine. Leather on spine slightly cracked and front board with a few scratches with a bit of loss of leather. Internally nice and clean. (26) pp. 1628 columns, (2), 1682 columns, (3) pp. + frontispiece. Second edition, here in an attractive binding, of Jörcher's popular lexicon. Christian Gottlieb Jöcher (1694-1758) was a German academic, librarian and lexicographer.

Slight edgewear and rubbing. * David Dalrymple, Lord Hailes, 3rd Baronet of Hailes (1726 -1792) is known for his Annals of which the first volume appeared in 1776 and the second in 1779. This is a new edition of the work in three volumes published five years after his death.

A bit of edgewear and soiling to the binding. Small crack to the back hinge and top of spine with small part missing. A couple of worm holes to the back board leather, not going through the board. Some leaves with old worm holes to the margins, not affecting text. Names to the verso of the free front pastedown. Bookplate inserted. * Blaise Pascal [1623-1662] wrote this work anbonymously [originally published in 1656-57] and formed it as a series of letters from a 'Louis de Montalte'. It was an ironic and harsh attack on the jesuits and was partly banned by both the pope and King Louis XIV. Nevertheless, the book was well read throughout Europe.
