Det stora slaget vid Lund den 4 december 1676 var det proportionellt blodigaste slaget i Nordens historia. Den svenska segern förhindrade en svensk förlust av Skåne, Halland och Blekinge, och brukar hyllas som en av stora svenska segrarna.

Stockholm, Joh. Christ. Holberg, 1787. 86 s. Häftad, med något trasigt samtida pappomslag. Titel med bläck på främre omslaget. Ur Ericsbergs bibliotek, med Carl Jedvard Bondes exlibris. Detta utkast om sjömanövern var ett pionjärarbete i Sverige vad gäller teori om skeppsmanöver (Wolke s. 168). En ny upplaga utgavs av brodern Fredric Sjöbohm 1791 som även lade till ett Bihang till sjömanövern. David Sjöbohm (1752-89) var major vid örlogsflottan och hann även medverka i framtagande av ”General-exercitier til sjös, med canonerne, under åtskillige occasioner, efter nödige tempo. Uprättade år 1787”, vilken dock trycktes först 1791.

Hamburg, Gottfried Liebernickel, 1695. 12mo. 59 pp. Minor spotting, some on the title. Paper boards from mid 18th-century, spine worn, front board with handwritten paper label. From the library of Ericsberg. VD17 23:315351V (2 copies). Bibl. danica III, 685. Warmholtz 2730 note. Second edition, the first was printed in Kiel in 1673. The Nordic union king Erik of Pomerania destroyed on July 1, 1420 almost completely the island of Fehmarn and nearly extinguish the population. According to the legend survived one of each families Mackeprang, Witt and Rauert. Christian Kortholt (1633-94) from Fehmarn was a lutheran teologian and became professor at the University in Rostock.

Klemming, Sveriges krig, s. 157. Warmholtz 4656. En av tre tryckvarianter av den berömda krigsrelationen om tåget över Bält, två trycktes i Stockholm och en i Göteborg. En noggrann textkritisk genomgång av dem görs av Arne Stade i uppsatsen ”Krigsrelationen om Tågen över Bält” i ”Carl X Gustaf och Danmark” (1965), där han även slår fast att Olivekrantz måste vara författaren. Det är en av de viktigaste källorna till tåget över Bält, skriven mycket kort efter händelserna och ansågs av bl.a. Curt Weibull ha stort källkritiskt värde. Johan Olivekrantz (1633-1707) hette före adlandet Johan Larsson Paulin, och var son till ärkebiskopen Laurentius Paulinus Gothus. Han var en lärd jurist och gjorde en snabb karriär, dels inom diplomatin, och dels inom Kanslikollegiet. Bland annat representerade han Sverige vid förhandlingarna i Nijmegen. Hans karriär avbröts dock 1680 och under enväldet hade han endast mindre uppdrag, men fortfarande ett stort inofficiellt inflytande, inte minst inom utrikespolitiken.

Daniel Heinsius utgåva av Johan Skyttes tre tal. Det ena hölls i London den 22 juli 1610 inför Jacob I av England, där han försvarade Karl IX:s legitimitet som kung gentemot Sigismund. De två andra hölls i Danmark 1617, det ena 10 december och det andra odaterat, och hade som syfte att försöka få stöd i stridigheterna mot Polen och att försöka lätta skuldbördan för Älvsborgs lösen. Talen är utgivna anonymt av Daniel Heinsius.

Ekmans namnteckning, daterad ”Calmar 1835” och med äldre bortraderad namnteckning. Collijn sp. 530 resp 884. Warmholtz 1323 för Anticluverius. Tredje upplagan av Loccenius juridiska lexikon. Det finns två varianter av rättelsebladet, vilka Collijn felaktigt anger som två blad. Här saknas dock rättelseblad. Första upplagan utkom 1651 och en utökad andra 1665. Johannes Loccenius (1598-1677) inkallades till Sverige av Gustav II Adolf till en professur i historia i Uppsala samma år. 1628 blir han professor Skytteanus, 1648 universitsbibliotekarie, rikshistoriograf 1651 och assessor i antikvitetskollegiet 1667. Som forskare i svensk rätt och som lärare introducerade Loccenius rättsvetenskapen i Sverige, och behovet av ett lexikon som definierade och översatte det ålderdomliga svenska rättsspråket till latin var stort. Loccenius arbetade även ständigt vidare på detta lexikon och varje ny upplaga innebar förbättringar. Georg Stiernhielms Anticluverius är postumt utgiven av Johan Hadorph. Den vänder sig mot geografen Philip Cluver och inte som påstås i titeln Johannes Cluver. Cluver påstod i sitt verk ”Germaniæ antiquæ libri tres” att goternas ursprung var att finna i norra Tyskland och inte i Sverige. Stiernhielm utvecklade här stor göthicistisk lärdom för att bevisa motsatsen.

Garcia 5580A. Furchheim p. 72. Italian-French parallel texts. The number of plates varies according to Furchheim. An edition only in Italian was published in ca. 1830.

Fint exemplar av Karl XI:s nya sjöartiklar som ersatte 1644-års artiklar och som antogs endast några år efter de nya krigsartiklarna. Sjöartiklarna trycktes om 1790, men ersattes först 1795 då artiklarna blev gemensamma för land- och sjöförsvaret.

This is the second edition of this compilation of different text on the”Power of Sympathy”. Ther compilation was first published in Nürnberg 1660. It contains Kenselm Digby’s ”Oratio de Vulnerum per pulverum sympatheticum sanatione”; Lorenz Strauss’ ”Epistolae ad Digbaeum”; Nicolaus Papinius’ (Nicolas Papin) ”De pulvero sympathico Dissertatio”; Erycius Mohyus’ ”Pulvis Sympatheticus”. Complete according to Ferguson. Sympathetic powder or Power of Sympathy was a kind of alchemical powder supposed to be able to cure a wound ”if applied to the weapon that inflicted it, or even to a portion of the bloody clothes”. The idea was popular in the 17th century century and sir Kenselm Digby (1603-65) was one of its main supporters.

This is a reprint of the Frankfurt editions of 1592 and 1599 (and of an edition without the ”Memorabilium aliquot naturae arcanorum sylvula” 1589).With separate titles for: ”Memorabilium aliquot naturae arcanorum sylvula, rerum variarum sympathias, & antipathias, seu naturales concordias & discordias, libellis duobos complectens.” which makes up pp. 269-355 (with somewhat erratic pagination) and ”Harmonia coelestium corporum et humanorum dialogis undecim astronomice & medice per Anton Mizaldum Monlucianum elaborata et demonstrata. Ad Antonium Olivarium Lumbariesum antistitem eximium.” (pp. 357-443). On the last page is a verse celebrating Mizauld, written by Johannes Perellus, a French philologist who in 1535 had published an edition of the ”Mensibus Atticis” of Theodorus Gaza.Antonius Mizauld (1510?-1578) was a very successful physician and medicinal doctor who in his later career became a prolific writer and compiler of books on the secrets of nature. John Ferguson writes at length about Mizauld: ”born at Monluçon in Bourbonnois, early in the sixteenth century. He studied medicine in Paris, graduated and entered upon practice, in which he was so successful, as to have merited the epithet of the French Aesculapius. Under Oronce Finé, he acquired skill in astrology, working it as a branch of medicine, after the custom of those days. He was summoned to the Court, was a friend of Princess Marguerite de Valois, and was a man of some rank. Persuaded that he had a nobler mission than that of healing, he relinquished his profession to devote himself to investigating the secrets of nature and to writing books. In the latter he succeeded, but in spite of his endeavours, nature kept her secrets still undivulged. He was devoted to astronomy and astrology, but escaped the pitfall of alchemy. After what must have been a laborious life, he died in 1578. […]In drawing up these collections, Mizauld laid under contribution ancient and modern writers alike, and extracted from them all the marvellous stories they contained, without troubling very much about their probability, or attempting to apply any criticism whatsoever. […] The contents of this book are certainly woth noting, and one can only say that if certain of the secrets are true they surpass belief, and if they are not, Mizauld’s belief must have surpassed credulity. Bound by the bookbinder Jeremiah Larkins (1833-1907), with his stamp. The folding maps are ”Chart of the West Indies with the adjacent Coast of South America showing the tracks of Don Christopher Columbus” and ”Chart shewing the tracks across the North Atlantic Ocean of Don Christoph Columbus”.

Stockholm, Charles M. Carlson, 1826. 8:o. (2),+ 140 s. Svag fuktrand över titelbladet. Häftad och oskuren, i samtida gråpappomslag. Exlibris från Arcana Stiftelsen. Denna rapport över hemliga liberala och förbjudna sällskap i Ryssland trycktes samma år även i St. Petersburg. Kommission tillsattes av tsar Nikolaus I efter Dekabristupproret 1825 med uppdrag att uppspåra och kartlägga alla potentiella upprorsmakare och deras organisationer. Framförallt riktade man in sig på de soldater som kommit hem från Napoleonkrigen och därifrån fört med sig moderna, liberala ideér. Stiftelsen Arcanasamlingen var en stor boksamling i Härnösand om religion, vilken upphörde våren 2010, och till del såldes.

The second of four 17th-century editions of Mathesius’ popular biography of Martin Luther. It was first published in 1566, followed by at least five editions until 1600. New editions were printed still in the 19th-century. The evangelical theologist Johann Malthesius (1504-65) was a pupil of both Luther and Melanchton. He become in 1532 rector, in 1541 diacon and in 1545 priest in Sankt Joachimstahl in Bohemia. His biography of Luther is by Oettinger regarded as the fourth attempt, after Melanchthon (1546), Cochlaus (1565) and Cruciger (1553).

First edition of the first English study entirely devoted to Homer as a historical person. A second edition appeared in 1736, a third in 1757. A German translation was published in 1776 by Voss, and a French in 1799. The vignetts are after Gravelot and mostly engraved by Van der Gucht but also by G. Scotine. The 12 vignettes are listed in the list of plates at the end. Blackwell concludes that Homer wust have been a real person, and his study is important in giving the picture of Homer as a simple and unspoilt Greek ”Naturmench”, undestroyed by civilisation. He also assumes that Homer must have been aquainted with the field of action of the Iliad, and therefore an guide to the place of Troy. Thomas Blackwell (1701-57), Greek scholar, translator and professor at Aberdeen, and an important representant for the Scottish enlightenment.

Fint exemplar av den första svenska utgåvan av Rimberts Ansgarsbiografi. Innehåller Rimberts prosatext på latin med den svenska översättningen parallellt, Gualdos metriska text utan översättning - båda med förord av Petrus Lambek - och en kronologisk översikt över Ansgars liv av Arrhenius, samt diverse mindre dokument. Både Rimberts text och Gualdos dikt hade upptäckts av Petrus Lambeck i klostret Saint Germaine des Prés och han lät publicera dem 1652. Dessa båda texter har Arrhenius tryckt av med obetydliga tillägg. Den svenska texten är medeltida och återfanns i den s.k. Nådendals klosterbok som Elias Brenner påträffat i Finland och överlämnat till Antikvitetskollegiet. Arrhenius upptäckte att det var en tidigare översättning av den av Lambeck utgivna texten och lät den då ingå i denna utgåva. Claes Arrhenius adlades Örnhielm 1684. Daniel Georg Neschers (1753-1827) bibliotek var särdeles starkt i svensk historia och det skulle efter honom säljas på auktion i Stockholm 1828, men förvärvades istället av Kungliga biblioteket. Därifrån har denna sålts som dubblett, troligen på 1831 års stora dubblettförsäljning.

Den första av de tre (2 enligt Lidén) avhandlingar som ventilerades under Gavelius, och den enda i folioformat. Petrus Gavelius, adlad Cederschiöld, (1625-97) var juris professor i Uppsala och hade även att föreläsa i folkrätt, d.v.s. i praktiken över Hugo Grotius skrifter. Under 1650-talet utbröt en tvist mellan honom och Johannes Schefferus. Gavelius anklagade Schefferus för att “förföra ungdomen”, genom att i en disputation om de romerska kungarna efter Livius, ha prisat den hedniske Romulus, och predikat att det är rätt att döda kungar, skända jungfrur m.m. Schefferus svarade med att försöka stoppa denna avhandling om Grotius, bl.a. genom att utsätta dess latin för bitter kritik. Hyltenius hämnades året därpå genom att baktala en under Schefferus ventilerad avhandling. Nils Hyltenius (1635-1702), 1686 adlad Silfverskiöld, blev professor och akademirektor i Lund. Han är idag även känd för sin dagbok under Malmö belägring 1676.

Here with another dedication in Russian. The opera comique ”De bägge savoyarderne” (Le deux petits Savoyards) with music by Dalayrac was given at the opera in Stockholm in 1794-1833.

En ny, och försämrad, upplaga utkom i Strassburg 1679. Den andra pagineringsföljden innehåller med nytt titelblad fredsfördraget mellan Kristina och Kristian IV 1645, Brömsebrofreden. Detta är Boeclerus huvudarbete i svensk historia och hans främsta prestation som svensk rikshistoriograf. Det utgavs dock postumt av Johan Bergenhielm, som försåg det med fredstraktaten och ett register. Johann Heinrich Boeclerus (1611-72) var tysk historiker och från år 1637 professor i vältalighet i Strassburg. Som sådan introducerade han den unge Schefferus i studiet av klassikerna. Han kallades av drottning Kristina till den skytteanska professuren i Uppsala 1647, men avböjde och rekommenderade istället Schefferus. 1649 kom han ändå till Sverige och Uppsala som professor i vältalighet och 1651 utnämndes han till rikshistoriograf. Han stannade dock endast till 1652, då han återvände till Strassburg och professorsstolen i historia.

Lacks the title page and the engr. frontispiece to part 4. No frontespieces were published to nr 9, 11 and 12. With mixed essays on Roman literature, architecture, military matters, numismatics, crucifications etc. etc. The editor Peter Adolf Boysen (1690-1743) was from 1718 rector in the Domschule in Halberstadt and from 1723 pastor there. The earlier owner is probably the finnish merchant in Nyen Henrik Jakob Siliacks (1717-68).

Isaac de la Peyrère (1594-1676) was a calvinistic lawyer who later converted into catholicism. In 1654 he lived in a house in the Southern Netherlands adjoining that of the recently abdicated Queen Christina of Sweden. Christina is said to have financed the anonymous publication of ”Prae-Adamitae”. La Peyrère’s explanation of St. Paul’s words in Chapter 5, verses 12-14 of his Epistle to the Romans that the world was inhabited before Adam, and that it therefore must have been two creations raised in 1656 a storm of indignation. The ”Prae-Adamitae” was condemned and burned in public in Paris and La Peyrère was imprisoned, but released after he regretting his views. His theory have had an impact on later polygenism and racism.

Den lärde Christian Adolph Klotz (1738-71) var filologiprofessor i Göttingen 1762, efter 1765 professor i retorik i Halle och en betydelsefull kritiker, huvudsakligen genom sitt eget organ ”Acta litteraria”. Idag är han dock mest ihågkommen för sin polemik gentemot Lessing, där han väl inte framstod i bästa dager.
