Dream of Fair to Middling Women is Samuel Beckett’s first novel. Written in English ""in a matter of weeks"" in 1932 when Beckett was only 26 and living in Paris, the clearly autobiographical novel was rejected by publishers and shelved by the author. The novel was eventually published in 1992, three years after the author's death. The title parodies Tennyson's ""A Dream of Fair Women"" and the term ""fair to middling,"" applied to agricultural products.

Julia Turner (1863 - 1946) was a British psychoanalyst and suffragette. She was born in Essex in 1863 and studied classics at University College London, where she graduated in 1889.

The many surface techniques are described in clear and simple language, and the book is richly illustrated with detailed drawings and photos. It also deals with replacing environmentally harmful processes and surfaces that contain chromates and nickel among others. One chapter is dedicated to hardening of materials based on a wide variety of diffusion based industrial methods by inddiffusion of for example nitrogen, carbon, boron, chromium, etc. Examples are given of carburizing, nitriding, carbonitriding, and many other lesser-known thermochemical processes used for solving technological problems. The book is richly illustrated with pictures and figures showing how the technology creates new innovative solutions for industry and how surfaces are becoming integral to the function of the components.

Han skrev adskillige grammatikker og arbejdede med sammenlignende fonologi og morfologi. Han tog på forskerrejse til Island og udgav den første islandske grammatik. Rasmus Rask foretog også en efter datidens målestok storstilet rejse gennem Rusland til Indien for at studere og sammenligne sprog. Kort tid før sin død blev han ansat på Københavns Universitet som professor i østerlandske sprog.

Jean-Baptiste Édouard Detaille (French: [edwa? d?taj]; Paris 5 October 1848 - 23 December 1912 Paris) was a French academic painter and military artist noted for his precision and realistic detail. He was regarded as the ""semi-official artist of the French army"". Detaille enlisted in the 8th Mobile Bataillon of the French Army when the Franco-Prussian War broke out in 1870; by November he was seeing and experiencing the realities of war. This experience allowed him to produce his famed portraits of soldiers and historically accurate depictions of military manoeuvres, uniforms, and military life in general. He eventually became the official painter of the battles. He published a book called L'Armée Française in 1885, which contains over 300 line drawings and 20 color reproductions of his works.
