Paris, Morancé, (1920). 44x32. 20 pp. + 80 heliogravure plates with ca 180 photographs. Loose as issued in a cloth-backed portfolio with tie-strings. (Le Style Empire). A comprehensive photographic documentation of the Hôtel Beauharnais in Paris and its interiors including decorated ceilings, doors, Empire-style furniture, clocks, candelabrae, etc. The building was erected in the early 18th century to the design of Germain Boffrand who sold it to the marquis de Torcy; among the subsequent owners was Eugene de Beauharnais, son of the First Consul for Napoleon Bonaparte. At the proclamation of the German Empire in 1871, the Hôtel Beauharnais became the embassy of the new state, and continued to be the German Embassy till the end of the Second World War, when it was confiscated by the French state.

Scarce monograph "conceived and created by la Rinascente in order to underline the importance of the work of Gio Ponti for the improvement of the aesthetic level of artisanal and industrial production". In 1954, Gio Ponti and Alberto Rosselli had teamed up with the Italian company La Rinascente to set up the important Compasso d'Oro design award. A complete set of the Design Annual published between 1950 and 1965 by the Swedish Industrial Arts Association (Svenska Slöjdföreningen), containing illustrated articles on - mainly Swedish - contemporary decorative art, industrial design and architecture. Although the English subtitle was added in 1961 (no.10) the text is entirely in English from no.3 and on (except no.6 which has bilingual Swedish/German text), and nos. 1-2 have captions in English.

A documentation of the competition schemes for Berlin's most famous postwar housing development, also published as four parts in wrappers. The planning of the Hansa district was the subject of an international competition for which a variety of dwellings were designed by 53 architects throughout the world, including Walter Gropius, Max Taut, van den Broek & Bakema, Le Corbusier, Luciano Baldessari, Pierre Vago, Oscar Niemeyer, F.R.S. Yorke, Alvar Aalto, Kay Fisker, Arne Jacobsen, and others.

A very good copy with a minimum of external darkening. Scarce publisher's preview of the portfolio also presented in the more common "Work From the Same House" published by Trigram Press the same year. Full reproduction of the portfolio which contained sixteen images of combined photographs by Friedlander and etchings by Dine with the artists' handwritten introduction.

The first and the second edition - the latter actually a fully revised, extended and newly illustrated version - of this comprehensively illustrated and detailed study of elementary-school buildings in the Scandinavian countries, covering buildings, class-rooms, handicraft shops, cookery-classes, gymnasiums and baths, furniture and equipment. The emphasis is on the large schools in the towns but rural examples are included as well.
