Paris 1894-96 (-1897). 40x29. IV+IV+240; + IV+228 pp. + 98 beautifully produced plates (two folding) with guard tissues (numbered I-XCIII plus five plates numbered IIII bis, IV bis, XI bis, XXIV bis, and XXVI bis). More than 900 elevations, detail drawings and plans, and 8 full-page photographs. A pristine copy in unopened text sheets and loose plates as issued in four installments, each in their original printed paper covers. Kept in a half cloth portfolio with tie-strings. From Johnny Roosval's library with his stamp on inside of the portfolio's front board. First edition of this pioneering thesis on the distinct type of religious architecture that sprang up in the ancient diocese of Soissons in the 11th and 12th centuries. Lefèvre-Pontalis examined the monuments on site and produced detailed plans and drawings, provided with descriptions and comparisons with similar monuments. Arguing that ogival (pointed) vaulting was introduced into Christian architecture at Soissons, the thesis is also an investigation into the origins of this revolutionizing constructional feature and of Gothic architecture as such.

Berlin 1930. 25x17. 76 pp. Pictorial wrappers. Typography and wrapper design by Jan Tschichold. An excellent copy of this rare and fragile book, with only very light wear to the sensitive backstrip. (Fototek, 2). 60 full-page photographs by Aenne Biermann, one of the major protagonists of the New Objecivity movement in photography, who died at the young age of 34 shortly after the publishing of this book. The last photograph in the book is a portrait of Franz Roh who has written the text (which appears in German, English and French). The Fototek series was a collaboration between Roh and Tschichold - the creators of the 1929 publication Foto-Auge - and several issues were planned but only two were realised, on Moholy-Nagy and Biermann respectively.

Signed presentation copy from Brassaï to the Swedish design and photography critic Ulf Hård af Segerstad. First leaf has small printed title at top Séville en fête; second leaf has ditto Photographies de Brassaï (and the ink inscription); next leaf is the main title leaf, with imprint on reverse. This is followed by page 11, and nothing seems to be missing so apparently the front endpapers may be regarded as included in pagination.

A fine copy in publisher's gilt-lettered cloth. Rare first edition of this important study by the pioneering German orientalist, archaeologist and art historian, on the tile-decorated kiosk of the Royal palace of Konya (Ikonion) which was built by Kilidj Arslan II in the 12th century.

Tryckt i 620 ex. av vilket detta är nr 144. Oskuret exemplar inbundet, med båda omslagen och ryggremsan, i ett elegant halvpergamentband med sparsamt förgylld rygg (August Sandgren). De marmorerade pärmarna lätt nötta i översta och nedersta kanterna, i övrigt ett mycket fint exemplar. En uttömmande beskrivning av det lilla lustslottet Liselund med dess intredning och anslutande byggnader, uppförda på ön Møn 1792-95 enligt ritningar av Andreas Kirkerup. De detaljerade uppmätningsritningarna är utförda av Hack Kampmann, Christian Kampmann, Kay Fisker, Aage Rafn, Poul Stegmann and Max Rée, och boken är i sig utformad som en pastisch av en bok från det sena 1700-talet. Att Liselund blev en inspiration för den Moderna Klassicismen i skandinavisk arkitektur är särskilt uppenbart i Gunnar Asplunds Skogskapell på Skogskyrkogården.

A portfolio of eighteen original photographs by Josef Ehm, dating from 1938, 1946-47 (4), 1950-57 (5), 1960-69 (7), and 1976. A Czech protagonist of the New Objectivity movement in photography, Ehm taught at the State School of Graphic Arts in Prague from 1934 to 1946, and edited the magazine Photo Horizon together with Jaromir Funke between 1939 and 1941. Text and captions in Czech, Russian, German, English, and French, with an essay by Petr Tausk and a biographical chronology compiled by Tausk and Ehm together.

The landscape architect's own descriptions of the private gardens created by him 1920-1933 in Los Angeles, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Montecito, and Pasadena, with his autobiographical notes. Includes introduction by David Gebhard, and an index.

Ponce's description and engravings, after drawings by Raphaël, of the antique arabesques of Roman baths and the ceilings of the Ville-Madame.

London, Oxford University Press, 1933. 38x38. XVI pp. (first leaf blank) + 314 pp. + 114 plates (13 coloured including frontispiece and two folding double-plates) with ca 220 reproductions. Publisher's decorated, gilt-lettered cloth. The 1931 Burlington exhibition was the largest collection of Persian painting ever displayed in Europe as well as unsurpassed in its quality and variety of objects. The 1933 publication incorporates an illustrated catalogue of the now legendary exhibition, but is in effect a groundbreaking scholarly monograph with overviews of the major schools and periods of Persian miniature painting, introducing many aspects of Persian art hitherto unknown in the West.

Amsterdam, multi art points, 1976. 20x20. One inititial leaf with horizontal lines + 90 leaves with graphic designs. A pristine copy in original blank wrappers with title written in pencil by the artist. No. 719 of an edition limited to 750 numbered copies, signed by Morellet. An artist book composed of a series of geometric webs of horizontal lines intersected by lines of gradually altered gradient from near horisontal to vertical, thus resulting in patterns of diamond shapes finally developing into a grid of perfect squares.

Berlin, Wasmuth, 1901-09. 48x32. Ten volumes each comprising an average of IV+32 pp. text + plates. There is a total number of 299 heliogravure plates with ca 350 photographs, printed on heavy stock. In the text there are 573 drawings and plans. Publisher's printed quarter cloth (covers slightly worn, some bindings weakened, otherwise a fine set). Scarce, sumptuously produced photographic documentation of picture frames, mostly French, from late 16th to early 19th century, in the Louvre, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, museums of Aix-en-Provence, Lyon and Dijon, and in private collections: Tuffier, Decorcelle, Dormeuil, Jacques Doucet, etc., with an historical introduction.

IV+176 pp. Ca 120 photos and perspectives, and 75 plans, sections etc. A very good copy of this rare item, in the original printed wrappers designed by Teige (tiny scuffing at bottom of spine and faint, hardly visible architect's name stamp on front wrapper). The first volume of MSA, the important publication of the Czech and international avantgarde edited and designed under the influence of Bauhaus Dessau. MSA 1 contains writings by Teige and (translated into Czech) Mies, Loos, Mart Stam, Le Corbusier, Ginsberg, and others, and lavish pictorial documentation of buildings designed by the aforementioned and Krejcar, Molnar, Koula, Bohuslav Fuchs, Gropius, Hannes Meyer, Rietveld, Lurçat, Leonidov, Lissitzky, Golosov, Vesnin, etc. Two further volumes appeared 1930-31: MSA 2 on modern Czech architecture, and MSA 3 on the work of Havlicek & Hanzik.

Barcelona, Polígrafa, 1973. 33x25. 88 pp. on stiff paper leaves, including nine full-page and seven double-page original lithographs by Tapiès . From a total edition of 556 copies, this is no. 261 of 425 copies numbered 76-500. Original cloth binding designed by Tapiès.

Berlin, Wasmuth, 1882. 48x32. X+18; + IV+18 pp. + 194 plates numbered 1-200 including 7 folding double-plates and one plate 43a. Loose as issued in two gilt-lettered half cloth portfolios, covers rubbed, neatly rebacked; contents fine. An imposing documentation of eighty-seven contemporary buildings designed by German architects: sixty-five villas and residential houses and twenty-two hotels, banks, schools, museums, etc. More than half of the plates are heliogravures with full-page photographs; on the other plates there are plans, elevations and sections. Among the architects are Wendelin Braunwald, Adolf Gnauth, Gropius & Schmieden, Conrad Wilhelm Hase, Georg von Hauberrisser, Christian Heidecke, Franz von Hoven, Wilhelm von Mörner, Heinrich Müller, Mylius & Bluntschli, Edwin Oppler, Hermann Otto Pflaume, Johann Georg Poppe, Robert von Reinhardt, Albert Schmidt, Heinrich Theodor Schmidt, and Karl Weissbach.
