Sirligt skriven dedikation av översättaren till Napoleon Johansson (stadsfiskal i Filipstad, Värmland), till minne av majfesten i Uppsala 1894. Trevligt proveniensexemplar med exlibris för Nils Nordqvist. Prakttryck i liten upplaga på handgjort papper. Text i medeltidsstil i färgerna rött, blått och svart, tryckt. Publisher's boards, pictorial dustjacket. Very fine. Dictionary made up from forty-nine contemporary design and pattern books, with 6000 (!) illustrations and each piece of furniture sorted according to physical characteristics (e.g. table with three legs), so that it is only necessary to glance down the list of contents to identify into which category any particular piece belongs. - - - (Publisher:) "The nineteenth century produced more varied forms of furniture than any previous period in British history. Whereas about half a dozen names such as Chippendale, Hepplewhite, Adam and Sheraton dominated eighteenth century designs, the nineteenth century produced dozens of independent designers particularly towards the end of the period. As the furniture trade developed, so manufacturers and retailing split. Catalogues began to be used in retail shops as they are today. Competition between retailers and the use of the new design books, resulted in a large number of designs, not only new ones but also a constant looking backwards to earlier centuries for inspiration. This change in the structure of the industry made full use of highly individual interpretations of Gothic, Renaissance, Elizabethan, "Naturalistic" styles, Egyptian, Old French, Louis Quatorze, Louis Quinze, and Italian decorations, all applied to a wide variety of furniture, and one can understand that the complexity of the subject is best explained by a very large number of illustrations. This is the reason why over 6,000 appear in this book. Other books so far written on the period have tended to concentrate almost entirely on the names of leading designers and pieces made for the few important exhibitions, which, while relevant to taste at the top end of the market, had little influence on the vast flow of furniture produced for the wealthy middle class market, the type of furniture that one finds today in market shops and at auctions. The Dictionary is made up from forty-nine contemporary design and pattern books. Each piece of furniture has been sorted into its physical characteristics (e.g. table with three legs), so that it is only necessary to glance down the list of contents to identify into which category any particular piece belongs. This simple format has avoided the pitfalls of using contemporary nomenclature interlaced as it is with later fashionable terminology (for example dressoir and "Glastonbury" chair). Within each category the pieces are arranged in chronological order so that the evolution of each type is clearly seen. This provides the first major study of the very wide range of furniture provided in this prolific century and should become the standard work of reference on this subject. A scholarly introduction by the late Edward Joy, the eminent furniture historian, gives a fascinating review of the design trade of the period".

Examines the life and creative path of the prominent Estonian architect and watercolorist Karl Burman (1882-1965). A comprehensive summary in German provides an overview of the architect's life and work for the foreign-speaking reader.

Out of originally more than 1300, only 28 are still preserved today. - - - Hva kjennetegner stavkirkene? Og hvordan ta vare på dem? Here, experiences from the work on the conservation of church art are communicated and discussed, and new facts and methods are presented. Volumes 17 & 24-25 of the series The Churches of Sweden, published since 1912 with some 230 volumes to date. The volumes of this scholarly series give the most complete and accurate history, description and inventory of Swedish churches. - - - Among the treasures of Storkyrkan is "St. George and the dragon" by Bernt Notke (late 1400s).

Oskuret blad med råkanter, fint skick. 15,8 x 18,5 cm (plåtmått), 25,7 x 34,5 cm (bladmått). / Litteratur: Frölich, Bröderna Elias och Johan Fredrik Martins gravyrer (1939), sid 87-88, 217-8 (nr. 140). Nytryck ur Nationalmusei samling av kopparsticksplåtar (1970), ingår i nr. 37. År 1783 erhöll Hilleström av Gustaf III uppdraget att utföra en serie oljemålningar med allmogemotiv från Sverige och Finland. Serien omfattade "Lappar i Herjedalen", "Almoge i Blekinge", "Almoge i Wingåker uti Södermanland", "Almoge i Mora uti Dalarne", "Almoge i Skåne", "Almoge i Leksand uti Dalarne", "Allmoge i Småland", "Handlande Westgöthar", "Almoge i Savolax" samt "Almoge i Karelen". De flesta bilderna föreställer interiörer av bondstugor med figurer i folkdräkter som Hilleström lade stor möda på att få korrekta, liksom han sökte skildra seder och bruk. Han var pionjär i svensk konst inom detta område och hans bondeinteriörer gjorde honom känd och bland den stora publiken, även utomlands, då de spreds i två serier etsningar av J. F. Martin, den senare med franska titlar. Den första serien, konturetsningar, utkom 1797 och såldes även akvarellerade, den andra, utförd i akvatint, utkom 1805 och trycktes monokromt såväl som i färg, även dessa förekommer akvarellerade - - - Johan Fredrik Martin (1755-1816) after Pehr Hilleström (1732-1816): Almoge i Karelen. / Les Paysans de Karelie.
