Gilt decoration to both outer and inner edges of boards. Gilt edges. Exlibris to front endpaper in both volumes (Robert Hyde Greg). xxx,335;xx,400pp. Light wear to boards. Light wear to spines. Some wear to edges of boards and edges of spines/boards. Wear to corners of cover. Hinges cracked. Back board of first volume loose, reinforced with glue. Endpapers darkenend. Front free endpaper and flyleaf in first volume very loose. Verso front free endpaper and flyleaf with stains in first volume. Text and illustrations good with only light brownspotting to select pages. With countless, beautiful woodcuts, drawn and engraved by Thomas Bewick. First state, before the woodcut on page 285 of volume I was partially destroyed. In all the later editions two bars were introduced, obliterating part of the design.
