[Berlin]; Wendelkreis Verlag, 1924. 32,5x25,5 cm. (14, 2 blanks) pp. With four full-page woodcuts by Hans Orlowski, printed at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Charlottenburg and all of them signed in pencil by the artist. The text, a Georgian epic on the mythical, Prometheus-like hero Amiran (or Amirani), was translated by Adolf Dirr and originally published in his ""Kaukasische Märchen"" (Jena, 1920). Orlowski (1894-1967), German painter and woodcut artist. Orlowski attended the Kunstgewerbeschule in Berlin-Charlottenburg from 1911 to 1915. After the First World War he returned to Berlin and continued his studies at the Staatlichen Kunstschule under Philipp Franck. In 1920 he exhibited in the ""Freien Sezession Berlin"" and, by invitation, with the Belgian group ""Lumière"" in Antwerp. In the following years he also exhibited with this group, which included Jan and Jozef Cantré, André Lhote, Conrad Felixmüller, Frans Masereel, Joris Minne, Max Pechstein and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. From 1921 to 1945 he worked as a teacher at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Charlottenburg. During this period he created numerous woodcuts and series of illustrations. In 1924 the artist turned away from Expressionism and destroyed almost all of his early work. The book offered was issued in an edition of 50 numbered copies, and in further 10 copies intended as gifts for friends of the publisher (""Frühlingsgabe für die Freunde des Wendelkreis Verlages...""). This is one of the 10 copies.

Stockholm / Stehag; Symposion, 2000. (Kulturhistoriskt bibliotek). Diss. 21,5x15 cm. 424, (1, 1 blank) s. Häftad med tryckt vikomslag. Fint ex. With a summary in English. 'The main hypothesis of this thesis is that these pre-historical peoples have not occupied modern man because they were important as historical agents, but because they were, with the words of Claude Lévi-Strauss, ""good to think"". The interest in ""the Indo-Europeans"", ""the Aryans"" and their ""Others"" — which latter group has at times been described as Jews, Savages, Orientals, Aristocrats, priests, matriarchal farmers, martial pastoralists, French liberals, and/or German nationalists — was (and still is) motivated by a wish to construct alternatives to those identities given by tradition. The study of the Indo-Europeans, their culture and religion, has been a way to produce new concepts, new identities and thus an alternative future.' (Abstract).
