Fries' descendant Nils Fries (1912-94), also professor of botany at the university of Uppsala.Detta är den illustrerade praktupplagan de svenska svamparna. De fina planscherna är huvudsakligen efter teckningar av Elias Pettersson och Petter Åkerlund. Svampbeskrivningarna hade tidigare publicerats i "Monographia hymenomycetum Sueciae, (1857-63) och de praktiska detaljerna delvis i "Anteckningar öfver de i Sverige växande ätliga svampar" (1836). Även i detta verk justerar dock Fries detaljer i sina släkt- och artnamn. Till skillnad från de tidigare mykologiskt rent vetenskapliga verken hade detta stora arbete även en folkbildande praktisk funktion, att höja medvetenheten om svamparnas användning och värde. Här omtalas var man äter svamp, giftsvampar, svampars beståndsdelar, insamlingsråd, uppväxt och fortplantning m.m. Verket fick en enastående verkan och blev starten för en snabbt växande svensk populärmykologi, och det följdes snabbt av billigare och enklare verk med färgillustrationer av svampar, av mykologer som J. W. Smitt och N. J. Andersson. Elias Fries (1794-1878) från Femsjön i Småland, ofta kallad "mykologins fader", blev snabt ett världsnamn inom botaniken och framförallt inom mykologin. Hans stora genombrott, "Systema mycologicum", började utges redan 1821. Hans världsrykte stärktes genom verk som "Epicris systematis mycologici" (1836-38), "Hymenomycetus Europaei" (1838) m.fl. Han främsta insatser låg inom systematiken och beskrivningen av svamparna. Han tillhörde dock den romantiska naturuppfattningens så hans indelning i klasser och underklasser är numera obsolet, men "...his distinction of different spore colors still has important taxonomic value, and he is especially remembered for his ability to describe species." (DSB).

Skulpturen är utförd i Stockholm under Sjögrens tid som lärare på Konstakademien; exemplaret anges i en utställningskatalog från 1935 tillhöra fru Ingrid Simonsson och ställdes senare ut på Sjögrens minnesutställning 1975. Ett bronsexemplar ägdes också av Conrad Pineus (1872-1945) och visades på utställningen av hans konstsamling på Konstakademien 1944 (nr 246 i katalogen). Det är dock inte upptaget i den omfångsrika katalogen över samlingen från 1940, som bl. a. innehöll en stor samling målningar av Simonsson. Simonsson själv gick bort sensommaren 1938 och ägde troligen det exemplar i gips som också fanns i familjen tills nyligen. Sjögrens porträtt av målaren Birger Simonsson är ett verkligt fint vänporträtt och fångar mycket av föremålets inte helt lätta karaktär - Simonsson var intelligent, stridbar och kvick, men samtidigt "överkänslig, ömtålig, ytterst sårbar" för att citera Pär Lagerkvist. Sjögren och Simonsson var vid denna tid lärare på Konsthögskolan i skulptur respektive måleri och blev samtidigt oskiljaktiga utställningskamrater, bl. a. med en vandringsutställning i Västsverige 1933-34 (Borås, Göteborg, Halmstad) samt på Konstakademien 1935. - - - Nils Sjögren hör till våra allra mest framstående skulptörer men är ändå relativt okänd, trots att han hade många stora offentliga uppdrag. Förklaringen torde vara att han till skillnad från många andra undvek att stöpa sin oeuvre i en tydlig stil, ett dekorativt manér som hade kunnat stärka hans varumärke och ge honom den breda popularitet som skapas av omedelbar igenkänning. Hans skolning var klassisk och delvis fransk (studier för Bourdelle och Christian Eriksson), och som betraktare måste man imponeras av hans människoskildringar, som är av enastående kvalitet och uttrycksfullhet, lågmälda och samtidigt kraftfulla. Det här huvudet är utfört 1930, dvs samtidigt som Sjögren arbetade med sin välkända helfigurskulptur i Uppsala av polarforskaren Finn Malmgren, som stupat 1928 under Umberto Nobiles nordpolsexpedition med luftskeppet Italia. - - - Utöver stora offentliga skulpturer, däribland torgbrunnar i Kalmar, Skara, Borås, Enköping och Malmö, har Sjögren även gjort en del dekorativa arbeten. Ett av dem uppmärksammades ganska nyligen, nämligen ett av dörrhandtagen till Stadsbiblioteket i Stockholm, föreställande Eva, som försvann vid en stöld 1975 och återbördades till biblioteket 2021. Ärendet figurerade både i Antikrundan och i pressen, och fick en extra knorr sedan fastighetskontoret gav upphittaren en reklamkaffekopp i hittelön trots att skulpturen värderats till en kvarts miljon. - - - Bohuslänningen Birger Simonsson (1883-1938) hörde till modernismens introduktörer i Sverige. Efter studier hos Matisse tog han tillsammans med bl. a. Grünewald och Leander Engström initiativ till konstnärsgruppen De unga, som 1909-1911 begick de utställningar på Hallins konsthandel i Stockholm som utgjorde modernismens intåg i svensk konst. Simonsson förknippas ofta med sin vän Gösta Sandels, med vilken han var bosatt i Kungälv några år på 1910-talet.

Samlingen i övergripande gott skick men en del marginalrevor och småfläckar förekommer, cirka tjugo skisser med revor och små förluster i bildyta, till största del kortare revor men även ett par längre. De flesta med knappnålshål efter tidigare uppsättning. Alla utom två med maskinskrivna lappar påklistrade på baksidan med uppgifter om till vilken uppsättning skissen framställt. En stor del med Malmquists egna noteringar. Omfattande samling teaterskisser utförda av scenografen Sandro Malmquist (1901-92) under 1920- och 1930-talen. Samlingen omfattar Malmquists arbeten vid scener som Lorensbergsteatern, Dramaten och Oscarsteatern och innehåller skisser för scenografi och kostym för följande uppsättningar: Björnstjerne Björnson ”Geografi och kärlek” (1 st); Pedro Calderón de la Barca ”Livet en dröm” (12 st); Knut Hamsun ”Livets lek” (1 st); Friedrich Hebbel ”Gyges und sein Ring” (1 st); Ludvig Holberg ”Jeppe på berget” (8 st); Henrik Ibsen ”Brand” (2 st); Erik Axel Karlfeldt ”Yttersta domen” (9 st); Pär Lagerkvist ”Han som fick leva om sitt liv” (1 st); Jules Romain ”Diktatorn” (1 st); George Bernard Shaw ”Sankta Johanna” (34 st) och William Butler Yeats ”Längtans land” (3) st samt 35 övriga skisser bestående av bl.a. tretton skisser för balettpantomier, skisser för revyer, en skiss utförd i tonåren och ett akvarellporträtt föreställande Max Reinhardt. Nästintill samtliga skisser bär maskinskrivna etiketter på baksidan med uppgifter om uppsättning eller trolig uppsättning i de fall det varit oklart. Identifieringen av skisserna är gjorda av Sandro Malmquist själv och Ann-Margret Liljequist i början av 1970 enligt ett bifogat brev. Liljequist publicerade 1985 sin avhandling ”Sandro Malmquist och hans verksamhet som scenograf”. Avhandlingen bygger till stor del på materialet i denna samling och Liljequist analyserar ingående de olika uppsättningarna utifrån detta material – som delvis också finns avbildat i avhandlingen. Ett exemplar av avhandlingen medföljer tillsammans med det nämnda brevet och ett par pressklipp. Skisserna har bl.a. ställts ut på Valand 1923, Teaterutställning i Helsingfors 1924, separatutställning i Stockholm 1927, Deutsche Theater-Ausstellung 1927, Svensk teaterkonst under tjugo år 1936 och Teaterutstillingen Kunsternes Hus i Oslo 1951. Malmquist studerade vid Lorensbergsteaterns elevskola i Göteborg 1920-23 och fortsatte efter studierna vid Lorensbergsteatern som scenograf och regiassistent fram till 1926. Han studerade för den österrikiske regissören Max Reinhardt (1873-1943) i Berlin 1924-25 och blev vid hemkomsten utnämnd till chefsdekoratör på Oscarsteatern. 1927 återknöt han samarbetet med Per Lindberg, som han varit regiassistent åt vid Lorensbergsteatern när dennes pjäser uppfördes på Dramaten. Utöver arbetet som scenograf grundade Malmquist även teaterscenerna ”De ungas teater”, ”Den glada åsnans teater” och ”Nya teatern” under slutet av 1920-talet och under 1930-talet. Han arbetade under trettiotalet även med Gösta Ekmans och Karl Gerhards uppsättningar. Från 1939 var han regissör vid Riksteatern och även under tre år chef för Malmö stadsteater.

Olja på pannå, stämplad Paris a tergo. Signerad: "W Feron". 55 × 37,8 cm. Pannån ngt buktande. Odaterad, men utförd i Frankrike på 1880-talet. Proveniens: I konstnärens familj till 2009. Tidigare odokumenterad. När det gäller 1800-talets måleri är det ofta studier och skisser vi finner levande och friska idag, snarare än det tillrättalagda ateljémåleriet. Studierna har inte varit avsedda för publikens blickar och har sällan tillåtits överleva. Men när de bevarats är det ofta där vi kommer konstnären och hans upplevelse som närmast. Det gäller i hög grad denna fina friluftsstudie från norra Frankrike, som förblivit i konstnärens familj tills helt nyligen och bär små spikhål i hörnen efter att ha varit uppsatt i hans ateljé. - - - William Féron var född i Stockholm av en nordfransk släkt som inflyttat till Sverige 1818. Han studerade på Konstakademien i slutet av 1870-talet och reste därefter till Frankrike där han ingick i den svenska konstnärskolonin i Paris. - - - Frånsett en Italienresa med Carl Skånberg 1882 tillbringade Féron större delen av 1880-talet i Frankrike, och förlade ofta sina målarutflykter till Normandie. Sommaren 1881 bildade han exempelvis en målarkoloni i Lyons-la-Forêt tillsammans med Karl Nordström, Allan Österlind och Robert Thegerström. Féron själv arbetade senare under sommaren i Saint-Jouin ute vid kusten. - - - Féron ägnade sig i Frankrike framför allt åt friluftsmåleri "i anslutning till italienaren Giuseppe de Nitti's av impressionismen ytterligt påverkade stil" (Gösta Lilja). Han anslöt sig 1885 till opponentrörelsen mot Konstakademien och deltog samma år i opponenternas utställning i Stockholm med en lyrisk stämningsbild, 'Ung flicka i trädgården'. Den inköptes 1894 till Nationalmuseum, men då var konstnären redan borta. Han hade kort dessförinnan tagit sitt liv, endast 35 år gammal.

The book's illustrations became the basis for several other books depicting the Ottoman empire.

Den trykte version er derudover forsynet med det enestående rytterportræt af lovens giver, Frederik III. Kongeloven, enestående i europæisk retshistorie som eksempel på en fundamentallov under et enevældigt monarki, blev holdt hemmelig fra 1665 på grund af dens bestemmelser om arvegangen i kongehuset. Here, however, with a misprinted page 119, with the engraved illustration from page 143, which depicts cliffs in the Stockholm archipelago, with the wrongly printed heading "Wacx Holm". The correct engraving of Vaxholm is attached to the page.The day by day account gives details of the journey and meetings with local state officers. The plates depict a.o. Reval (Talinn), Narva, a passage over a long, wooden log bridge, the ruined monastery of St Nicolai Vaysitsquy near Novgorod, Russian burning stoves, the towns of Milagona, Romanov, Glebovo, where the embassy was quartered, and the camp at Diderina, where the negotiations took place, and at the end the meeting with Gustavus Adolphus in the crown room in Stockholm.Anthonis Goeteeris (ca. 1574-1660) var "deurwaerder" i Höga Rådet i Holland och följde som kasssaförvaltare den holländska diplomatiska missionen under Reynhoud van Brederodes (1567-1633) ledning till Ryssland, med uppdraget att medla i kriget mellan Gustav II Adolf och den ryska storfursten. I november 1615 ankom de till Glebova i Ryssland efter att med båt ha passerat Kullen, Helsingborg, Öland och Gotland till Reval. I Narva hade de en konferens med Axel Oxenstierna innan de for vidare in i Ryssland. Goeteeris passar förstås på att ge en beskrivning över det exotiska landet Rysslands "wonderlijcke gestalteniße". Under hösten 1616 återvänder de via Vaxholm till Stockholm, för vidare hemfärd med båt till Lübeck. Resultatet blev en tre månaders vapenvila. Även England deltog i förhandlingarna och motsättningar mellan England och Holland bidrog till det svaga resultatet.

De fremragende hollandsk- og franskproducerede gengivelser af Dahlberghs livlige tegninger viser bygninger og byprospekter fra det svenske kerneland med Stockholm som det prangende centrum. Stormagtstidens nybyggerier dominerer, samtidig med at intentionen om at give de robuste svenske renæssanceborge et internationalt schwung lyser ud af plancherne. Værket skulle også omfatte Finland og de erobrede østdanske provinser, men materialet herfra er sparsomt, med vægt på den nyanlagte orlogshavn Karlskrona i Blekinge. Her var noget at vise frem. **Værket , der blev sat i gang i 1661, fik en lang udgivelseshistorie og var, da de sidste dele gik i trykken i 1715, stadig kun en - omend stor og flot - torso, stort set uden tekst. På det tidspunkt var Carl XII ved at have sat både stormagtsstatus og økonomisk formåen over styr, og efter Store Nordiske Krig orkede ingen at tage arbejdet op. Dahlbergh selv var død i 1703.

An attractive copy of this outstanding atlas of the two duchies of Schleswig and Holstein, the present Danish province of Sønderjylland and the German Bundesland Schleswig-Holstein. The map material includes a map of the old World (Europe, Asia, Africa), a map of Germany and one of Scandinavia. Among the town plans is a magnificent city plan of Hamburg. The maps were engraved by the brothers Matthias and Nicolai Petersen, both of them goldsmiths in the town of Husum, after drawings by the highly talented cartographer Johannes Mejer (1606-74) who was also a citizen of Husum. Mejer got famous for his cartographic genius, and the plates for the Schleswig-Holstein atlas were bought by Willem Blaeu jun. and reused in coloured versions in his Atlas Maior, Amsterdam 1662. The Danckwerth atlas was the only work of Mejer to appear in print the cartographer's lifetime. A monumental atlas of Denmark was never fulfilled due to the disastrous wars between Denmark and Sweden 1657-60. ** The duchy of Schlesvig (Slesvig/Sønderjylland) was a part of Denmark, whereas the duchy of Holsten/Holstein sorted under the the German Empire, with the Kaiser in Vienna as sovereign. From 1460, the duchies were administered as an entity under the Danish king. In the 1650s, the area of Schleswig and Holstein was split (and had been since 1542) into regions either ruled by the Danish king or by his kinsman, the duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp. The Danckwerth atlas is a result of a united sponsporship of the Danish king Frederik III and his political counterpart, duke Friedrich III of Holstein-Gottorp. The latter used all his political energy to loosen his dukedom from the Danish realm by nurturing close relations to Sweden. However, both king and duke got their portraits - side by side - on the titlepage of this atlas. Thanks to this coordinated initiative, this great atlas appeared, giving a most detailed and accurate description of the area between the Baltic and the North Sea at a cartographic level far ahead of the time.*** The maps give an important documentation of the development of the coastline along the North Sea. A flood in 1634 changed it totally, swallowing both islands and towns, but Mejer has been able to produce credible maps of the area both before and after this disaster. The cartouches show all kinds of peasants, fishermen and town people, fullfilling the aspirations of this atlas to give at total description of this part of Europe as it was in the year of 1652. Mejer himself appears - shown at work - on one of the plates.

This monumental work depicts the most important buildings in Copenhagen and the royal palaces and castles around the country. The two volumes are a valuable source to the looks of buildings that have perished since. Originally the work was planned in 10 volumes. Only two was published, whereas the manuscript and drawings for plates of a third volume was archived. The latter was published in 1966 and consists of valuable documentation about churches and official buildings in Copenhagen. In the manuscript, Thurah presents the visions for the entire work: To fulfill what his predecessor Peder Hansen Resen had aimed for in the 17th century - a total description of Denmark, fully illustrated. (Köln (Cologne), Ulrich Zell / Zel, ca. 1469). Large 8vo. Block measuring 21,5 x 14 cm. Printed in Gothic type, 27 lines to a page, 4-, 3-, 2, and 1-line initial spaces. Initials, paragraph marks, underlines, and capital strokes supplied in red throughout. Antoninus' "Defecerunt..." begins on f. (4r), ending with a colophon on f. (139r); Chrysostomos' "Sermo..." begins on f. (139v). Bound in a beautiful 19th century full polished calf with five raised bands to spine, gilt title-labels, inner gilt dentelles, and all edges of boards gilt. The hinges are worn and weak and cracked at the top. Marbled end-papers. Inside of front board with the book plate of Gilbert R. Redgrave. 144 ff. (including final blank). Internally a bit of soiling and browning and with numerous contemporary handwritten marginal notes throughout, some shaved when bound. The first leaf is with a slightly later 15th century handwritten inscription stating the provenance of the copy: "Mo[aste]rii Neostadiensis Ord[inis] S. Pauli Eremit[ae]" (i.e. Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit, Monastery in Neustadt), being the Pauliner-monastery in Wiener Neustadt outside of Vienna. There are two further inscriptions, both in contemporary hand, presuambly the same as that of the marginal notes throughout. They are on f. (65r) and f. (143v) and state that the book belongs to the Augustinian order of the St. Ulrich-Kloster ("mo[na]sterii S. Udalrici") in Wiener Neustadt. Exceedingly scarce early incunable-printing, possibly the first printing of both texts, being Antoninus’ “Confessionale” (the one known under the incipit “Defecerunt scrutantes scrutineo” (f. 4r) – one of the most influential confession books ever written, on the powers of the confessor, the seven deadly sins, the manner of interrogating persons of varying status, and absolution and the imposition of penance -, together with (Pseudo-) Chrysostomos’ “Sermo de Peonitentia” The venerated Catholic saint, Dominican friar, and Archbishop of Florence Antoninus Florentinus (1389-1459) had a great reputation for theological learning and had assisted as a papal theologian at the Council of Florence. Hist most important works – both written before and printed before his Summa Theologica -, are arguably his guides for confessors, which for centuries were highly regarded by the clergy as an aid and constituted a major development in the field of moral theology. Antoninus published three separate works that are all entitled “Confessionale”. They are distinguished by their incipit, the present being “Defecerunt…”, the most fundamental and influential of the three. The two others have “Curam illius habe”, also known as the “Specchio di coscienza”, which is an instruction manual for the sacrament of confession, written in Italian for a Neapolitan gentleman, directed at advising lay men and women, and “Curam illius habe,” also known as the “Medicina dell’anima”, which is an instruction manual directed to priests. Unlike the other two manuals, the “Defecerunt…” was published in Latin. It was “completed before July of 1440. This latter work is Antonin’s most popular by far, to judge by the number of manuscript copies, printed editions, and vernacular translations (Italian, Spanish, Croatian).” (Jason A. Brown: St Antonin of Florence..., 2019, pp. 44-45). Printed together with the “Defecerunt” Confessionale is the important “Sermo de poenitentia”, long ascribed to Chrysostomos, in which he deals with penance, also possibly printed here for the first time. The printing history of the work is quite complicated. There is no date and no printing place in the earliest printings of this foundational Catholic work, and numerous versions of it were printed. Furthermore, much of the “Defecerunt” seems to have been incorporated into his later, also highly influential “Summa” (see 3.17 – de statu confessorum). “The Confessionale “Defecerunt” exists in two known recensions, a briefer and a longer. These are distinguished by their incipits. The briefer recension incipit: Defecerunt scrutantes scrutinio ... Scrutantes aliorum peccata sunt confessores. Scrutinium autem est inquisitio facta in confessione. The longer recension incipit: Defecerunt scrutantes scrutinio ... Scrutinium quidem est confessio, in quo et penitens scrutatur conscientiam suam et confessor cum eo. It would be a tenable hypothesis, a priori, that the longer recension is original, that its material was copied into the Summa at the relevant places, and that the briefer recension was produced by abbreviating the longer one. Having examined early printed editions of the “Defecerunt” and considered their text against the autograph manuscripts, I consider it more likely that the longer recension is the later one, and represents an expanded version produced by adding in material from the Summa at corresponding places in the original Confessionale.” (Jason A. Brown: St Antonin of Florence..., 2019, p. 112). The present version – arguably the earliest – is the briefer, which was then later elaborated upon. As all bibliographers agree, it is clear from the characters that this copy was printed by Zell in Køln (Cologne), and no later than 1469 (some say no later than 1468, some just state “ca. 1470”)). Zell printed more than one version around the same time, but this seems to be the first of them – corresponding exactly to Hain 1162. In all, between 50 and 60 incunable editions of the work appeared in Latin, along with editions in Italian and Spanish, testifying to the enormous impact the work came to have on Catholic penitence. According to Gesamtkatalog der Wiegendrucke, 44 copies, including single fragments, are known to exist in public holdings, and at least one copy is known to exist on private hands. Hain-Copinger: 1162; GW: 2082; Brunet: I:333; Graesse I: 154. Provenance: During the reign of the pietist Habsburger Friedrich III (1440-1493), the small town of Wiener Neustadt near Vienna witnessed a blossoming of new clerical orders. They were more than doubled. To the already established monasteries were added, among several others, both an Augustiner-Kloster (which took over St. Ulrich), in 1459, and the Paulinerkloster (the one for St. Paul the First Hermit), in 1480. As is evident from the inscriptions in the present copy, it has belonged to both these orders, the first of which will presumably have acquired it at its appearance, where it was thoroughly read and annotated. With a decree of December 20th 1459, Pope Pius II allowed for a Augustinian Canon-monastery in Wiener Neustadt and thus fulfilled a longstanding wish of Kaiser Friedrich III. In June 1459, a decisive prerequisite for the founding of this monastery had taken place – the Secular Canons had renounced their parish church St. Ulrich in the Western suburb of Wiener Neustadt, which was now at the disposal for the Augustinian Canons. Friedrich III had very specific requests for the Augustinian Canons of Wiener Neustadt, and in accordance with these, Pope Pius II prescribed a dress for them that differed from the usual colour. Instead of a white habit, they were to wear a brown habit with a gold-coloured cross on the right side; the almucium (fur shoulder cloak), worn over the habit, was to be white on feast days and in church (instead of the usual black), while on ordinary days and outside of church, a brown almucium was to be worn. Like the provost of the secular canons, the provost of the Augustinian Canons also had the right to pontificals. The founding of the Augustinian Canons' foundation is recorded in a relief on Friedrich III’s tomb in the St. Stephan Cathedral in Vienna. On both sides of St. Ulrich, enthroned in the center, kneels an infulated priest, presumably the provost and dean. This group is surrounded by thirteen (also kneeling) canons. The inscription reads: "CANONICI REGULARES S. ULRICI NOVE CIVITATIS."
