A few plates with slight soling. * Engraved pictures of mammals, organized according to the principles of Linnaeus. The last 3 plates show Homo sapiens which represents the first class in the first Linnean order. Among the types shown here are Australian aboriginals. On the contrary, plate 56 shows a rabbit with horns.

Slight shelf-wear to edges and corners. * Attractive set of the first German edition of this classical work by the Scottish economist John Ramsay Mac Culloch (1789-1864).

Small piece of the spine missing at the top. Inner back hinge a bit weak and gaping at the top. A few old wormholes to the binding. A couple of small holes to the blank front free endpaper. Small closed tear to the margin of one leaf. A few leaves with an old wormhole in the margin. Faint dampstaining to the margin of the least leaves. * Second edition of this diplomatic work, originally published in 1594. The author is now mostly remembered for his play 'Il pastor fido' (The faithful shepard).

Gl. navn på fribladet. Ryggen og forpermen let plettet. * Sophus Tromholt regnes for at være pioneren interntionalt, for sine studier og optagelser af nordlys. Han skrev bogen "Om Nordlysets Perioder", efter optegnelser i Grønland, og så denne bog, der også blev udgivet på engelsk under titlen "Under the Rays of the Aurora Borealis". Bogen blev til efter et ophold i Kautokeino i Finmarken, hvor han observerede nordlys, under det første internationale polarår i 1882-83. ** En iøvrigt særdeles interessant rejsebeskrivelse og etnologisk dokumentation, der uden tvivl har stået som inspirationskilde for Knud Rasmussen, da han som ung gennemrejste lappernes land som en slags forberedelse på sine senere så berømte ekspeditionseventyr på Grønland.
