The Third Edition. Printed for Ro. Allot, London 1627. 4to (in sixes). (4)+309+(1 blank) pages. Missing the last blank leaf. Illustrated with three full page engravings [including the titleleaf] and numerous engravings in the text. Bound with the original calf preserved to the boards, but with 20th century morocco to the spine and corners. Old owner's number inserted to the new pastedown. The titleleaf has been strenghened with paper on the verso. Leaf I6 [the allegorical plate of the river Nile] has been heavily restored with a part missing and some loss of text to the verso. Tiny burnhole to the margin of leaf R6, not affecting text. Leaves X5-6 with restoration the lower corners, not affecting text. Leaf Aa4 with restoration along the edges of the statue of Emperor Commodus, not affecting the engraving nor the text to the verso. Some leaves with dampstaining. A good+ copy. * Highly interesting book on the Middle East and especially on Egypt; Sandys [1568-1648] had to make quite a bit of guessing regarding the pyramids and the history of Egypt.** The ESTC entry [S114571] calls for two plates besides the titleleaf, whereof one is an engraved map. This copy collates differently, as the map is replaced with the allegorical engraving of the Nile.

Among much else he is known for his contributions to Maison du Peuple in Clichy (architects Marcel Lods and Eugène Beaudouin), his own house in Nancy (now a museum), the Maisons Tropicales, for working with Le Corbusier and for his influence in choosing Renzo Piano's proposal for the Centre Pompidou in Paris (it's facade inspired by Prouvé's facade for Palais de la Foire in Lille (architect Paul Herbé).

Forlagt af A. Soldin, København 1816-1828.
