Times of India Press, Bombay 1948. 75 pages. Richly illustrated with photos in b/w. Original red cloth with lettering and flower motif to front board (the rare dust wrapper not present. vertical area of front along spine with light discolouration, possibly due to binding material).Small, light stain to front board plus two small, white stains to rear board. Boards a tiny bit bowed. Small, closed tear (20mm) to last blank leaf. * Published in the first year after the independence of India the work is characteristic for Cartier-Bresson in that his images are filled with people, close to their everyday doings and less with monumental vistas and architecture. Both are part of beautiful Jaipur. The first monograph on Henri Cartier-Breeson was published by The Museum of Modern Art in connection with an exhibition of his work in 1947 ('The Photographs of Henri Cartier-Bresson', April-May 1947). **Cartier-Bresson travelled the Far-east for three years following the founding of Magnum in 1947. He showed a unique eye for the everyday social life of people and a ability to fuse what he saw in the world with his personal vision. One senses a leaning towards the role of observer as opposed to the more artistic experiments of earlier years (probably enhanced by his long captivity during WW2) which places him firmly as one of the masters of documentary humanism. ***Text in English by Max J. Oliver.

Portfolio with edgewear. Lower hinge with a split (approximately 2.5 cm). Front board with cloth waving, possibly due to earlier water damage (no sign of this to inside board). Rear board scuffed and with rubbing. Plates clear and bright. The cardboard on which the plates are mounted with some foxing. * First part of the monumental masterpiece which was published in a total of four volumes/portfolios in the years 1839-49. Nash trained with architect Augustus Charles Pugin which is clearly visible in his excellent grasp of the spacial qualities of the rooms he portrays. The groups of people and pets placed in the spaces are endearing, but secondary. **Includes two sets of descriptive texts and prices for the two states in which this work was published. Far the most common is the version with printed plates. This hand-coloured edition is rarer and by far the most charming.

DANMARK - SPEED, JOHN.
Vangsgaards Antikvariat
vga797658
Kobberstukket generalkort over Danmark. London (c.1630). * Tilsvarende blad afbildet i Bramsen s. 93.

Original colour litograph, no date [1949 or early1950]. Measures: 120 x 86 cm. Framed under glass in a blue wooden frame. Very slight wear around the edges and margins. A nice copy. * Scarce. Large, magnificent communist poster, celebrating the proclamation of the Chinese People's Republic. The poster has been made right after the Chinese revolution, as the iconography of the poster points both forwards (depicting a young looking Chairman Mao) and backwards (as a traditional Chinese parade, still in rather traditional dressing instead of the uniforms and overalls of later Chinese posters). Above the portrait of Mao is shown a map of China with the 1949 borders.

20 bind. C.A.

Permernes indersider plettede. * Bibliotheca Groenlandica I,130.
