Keller, Christoph, Michael Lailach und Daniel Baumann:
Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir52852
JRP Ringier Kunstverlag, 2009. 8vo in wraps as issued. Bilingual German / English. 344 pages. Fine copy. 1. ed. A sourcebook on independent art publishing: Since 2001, Christoph Keller's famous archive "Kiosk – Modes of Multiplication" has been exhibited 27 times all around the world, in institutions such as the ICA (London), the Witte de With (Rotterdam), Artists'Space (NY), the Emily Carr Institute (Vancouver), MUDAM (Luxembourg) and some biennials such as Manifesta 4, the 25th Graphic Biennial of Ljubljana and the Istanbul Biennial. Today it contains more than 7.000 publications by approximately 500 independent art publishing projects from non commercial publishers, magazines, fanzines, newspapers, journals, audio- and video-labels, corporate and institutional publishing, etc. The focus has never been set on exhibiting the most interesting individual artists’ publications but rather the whole bandwidth of publishing possibilities, the motivations and strategies of the people "behind the scenes," the editors, publishers, designers, multipliers. On the occasion of the final public presentation of the archive at the Kunstbibliothek, Berlin, which has now taken over the archive as a special collection, this handbook represents an overview and reflection on independent art publishing activities today. It contains statements by the protagonists of this scene, theoretical texts, illustrations, and a broad source-part with comprehensive information on the contributing publishing projects. Published with the Stiftung Preussische Museen zu Berlin in the Christoph Keller Editions series. Awarded in the competition "The most beautiful Swiss books 2009."

Villesen, Gitte:
Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir51436
Published by JRP Ringier, 2010. tall 4to in wraps as issued. 190 pages, richly illustrated. Fine copy. 1. edition. Monograph on Villesen. "Meetings and conversations are central to Gitte Villesen's work. She documents these encounters in videos, photographic series, and installations, which are often combined with additional material such as photographs, texts, or collections of objects. "All my works start with a curiosity toward a specific person—and how each person approaches their life, certain attitudes, their passions, ideas and dreams, and how this combines with the reality in which they live, whether that's related to gender, or cultural or historical circumstances. The work deals with stories, and an awareness of what it means to tell someone else's story. Each work is a portrait of a meeting as much as it is a portrait of a specific person. In some works, and to varying degrees, the participants are involved in the discussion about their own representation as collaborators." The book presents most of Gitte Villesen's works made since 1994. Each work is described in a text by the artist, which provides the story behind how the meetings happened. The book also includes texts by Brett Bloom, Hanne Loreck, Jan Verwoert, and an interview conducted by Lotte Moller. The title of the book is a quote taken from Ursula Le Guin's 1969 science-fiction novel "The Left Hand of Darkness."
