Vols 1, lower margin with light dampstaining/The Maud Expedition (1918-1925), under Roald Amundsen 1918-22 and then under H. U. Sverdrup and O. Wisting 1922-25. The plan was to enter the pack ice north of the Bering Strait and drift with the ice as near to the North Pole as possible. Despite many years of effort, neither the passage nor the attempt on the pole were completed, but valuable scientific and meteorological data were collected, which are described in this important publication.
