Den danska utgåvan finns både med 28 blad och som här med 12 blad. Den utkom först på latin, ”Machinationes Cornificii Ulefeldii”. Mycket ovanlig, närmast en folkskrift om landsförrädaren Ulfeldt. Författaren Jacob Henrik Paulli von Rosenschild (1637-1704) var dansk lärd, historiker och diplomat. Han blev utnämnd till professor i historia och 1668 kunglig historiograf. Han slog sig därpå in på den diplomatiska banan och 1669 blev han istället legationssekreterare i Holland. 1698 blev han justiteråd och adlades von Rosenschild. Denna lilla skrift om Corfitz Ulfeldt verkar vara det enda historiska arbete han skrev. Ingen upplaga verkar dock ha tryckts under hans livstid.

Kommenterad utgåva av Jordanes, Isidor av Sevilla och Paulus Warnefrids skrifter om västgoterna och langobarderna. Friedrich Lindenbrog (1573-1648), son till historikern Erpold L., var en framstående jurist, elev till Scaliger, och utgivare av den västgotiska lagen (Leges Wisigothorum) och ett flertal senantika författare. Familjen Lindenbrogs stora boksamling donerades till staden Hamburg och utgör en del av grunden för Hamburgs stadsbibliotek. Historieprofessorn Johan Henrik Schröders (1791-1857) bibliotek, ”fullt af gamla sällsynta svenska böcker”, såldes på bokauktion i Uppsala efter tryckt förteckning. Enligt Henrik Klemming rådde auktionsdagen sådan snöyra i Uppsala att många, både anbud och spekulanter, inte kunde komma fram till auktionen i tid. Böckerna såldes även ofta mycket billigt.

Bjurström 798. Warmholtz 4444. Drottning Kristina dog på morgonen den 19 april 1689. Hennes tillstånd hade varit kritiskt sedan den 13 februari då hon fått ett svimningsanfall följt av hög feber. Hon fick mottaga sakramenten, men tillfrisknade tillräckligt för att kunna skriva sitt testamente. Olika läkare kom och gick, men efter ett vredesutbrott mot kaptenen för livvakten föll hon slutligen avsvimmad till marken och avled kort därefter. Hon låg sedan i fyra dagar på lit de parade i Palazzo Riario innan stoftet fördes på öppen vagn till S. Maria in Vallicella. Därifrån gick sedan den stora begravningsprocessionen till Peterskyrkan. Kristina hade själv i sitt testamente förordnat en enkel begravning utan all ståt och annan fåfänga. Hennes universalarvinge Azzolino försökte även följa hennes instruktioner men kyrkan ville inte släppa sin stora trofé, utan anordnade en stor procession. I timmar köade folk för att få en glimt av ståten, och ”Rom var för några timmar en teater där Christina för sista gången spelade huvudrollen” (Bjurström). Exemplaret har troligen tillhört Marco Antonio prins av Borghese (1814-86).

Red morocco, richly gilt spine with raised bands, boards with gilt frames and french lilies in corners and in the middle, richly gilt inner bordures, top edge gilt and the other trimmed (Ritter, stamp-signed on inner front boards). Two volumes, hinges with crack. Fine copy, but with cracks in the hinges, of the first complete English translation of the Heptamerone by Marguerite of Navarre (1492-1549), translated by the mystic and horror author Arthur Machen (1863-1947). This privately printed edition seems to have been issued without ilustrations but often, as here, has extra ilustrations added. In this copy there are 65 plates with cut out 17th century engravings, mostly erotic, that have been pasted to the plates. They are mainly taken from the French edition ”Contes et nouvelles de Marguerite de Valois”, 1698-99.

Late 19th century simple half cloth with paper boards, with preserved ties. Later inscribed (1959) with blue ink on the verso of the Italian title leaf. With a total of 57 plates out of 81! Garcia 5580A. Furchheim p. 72. Italian-French parallel texts. The number of plates varies according to Furchheim. An edition only in Italian was published in ca. 1830.

Fint exemplar av Karl XI:s nya sjöartiklar som ersatte 1644-års artiklar och som antogs endast några år efter de nya krigsartiklarna. Sjöartiklarna trycktes om 1790, men ersattes först 1795 då artiklarna blev gemensamma för land- och sjöförsvaret.

Stains on front board. Old numbering at top of spine. From the library of the Provincial masonic lodge of Gothenburg. Ferguson II, p. 440. Duveen p. 574f. for the expanded third edition. This is the second edition of this compilation of different text on the”Power of Sympathy”. Ther compilation was first published in Nürnberg 1660. It contains Kenselm Digby’s ”Oratio de Vulnerum per pulverum sympatheticum sanatione”; Lorenz Strauss’ ”Epistolae ad Digbaeum”; Nicolaus Papinius’ (Nicolas Papin) ”De pulvero sympathico Dissertatio”; Erycius Mohyus’ ”Pulvis Sympatheticus”. Complete according to Ferguson. Sympathetic powder or Power of Sympathy was a kind of alchemical powder supposed to be able to cure a wound ”if applied to the weapon that inflicted it, or even to a portion of the bloody clothes”. The idea was popular in the 17th century century and sir Kenselm Digby (1603-65) was one of its main supporters.

Stockholm, Kongl. tryckeriet, 1740. 4:o. (4). Bläckpaginering i övre hörn. Tagen ur band. Libris-Id:8238678. Finns även i en variant tryckt av Grefwing. Wedewog och Qvarnbacka Jern- och Ståhl Compagni bildades genom att de gamla Kvarnbacka kronohammare och Wedevågs Hammarsmedja slogs samman 1723 och bildade ett gemensamt bolag under ledning av Hans Ehrenpreus. Ett av de fösta svenska aktiebolagen. Detta första bolag gick dock dåligt och staten var pga kapitalbrist 1740 tvungen att överta verksamheten, vilket tillkännages i denna kungörelse. Här bildas ånyo av bolaget en ”publici egendom”, dvs ett aktiebolag, undertecknat av A. von Drake, H. J. Prochaeus, Gust. Kierman och Jac. Trolius den 3 december 1739, och intressenter måste före den 6 juni 1740 med kontanta medel betala sina lotter. Idag finns firman kvar som Wedevåg Tools.

First edition of one of the first anthologies of Hume’s works, extremely important in spreading the ideas of the English philosopher to a wider European public.

Emund Nicolai Figrelius, adlad Gripenhielm 1660, (1622-1675) blev historieprofessor i Uppsala 1650 och riksråd 1673. Han var en av Karl XI:s lärare och fick delvis bära skulden för undervisningens missyckande.

A few minor spots. Contemporary half calf, gilt spines with red and black labels and yellow edges. Six volumes. Dark spot on the spine to volume three. From the library of Säbylund, with the bookplate of Eugène Lewenhaupt and his annotation that he bought them from the libray of Österby at its auction in 1885. The second french edition. The italian original was published in 1792-97. Spallanzani was professor in Natural history at Pavia, and made extensive travelling between 1779 and 1788. This travel deals mainly with volcanos and agricultural matters, and the plates depicts aspects of Etna and Stromboli. The two last plates however depicts sea flowers and a shark mouth.

Daniel Heinsius utgåva av Johan Skyttes tre tal. Det ena hölls i London den 22 juli 1610 inför Jacob I av England, där han försvarade Karl IX:s legitimitet som kung gentemot Sigismund. De två andra hölls i Danmark 1617, det ena 10 december och det andra odaterat, och hade som syfte att försöka få stöd i stridigheterna mot Polen och att försöka lätta skuldbördan för Älvsborgs lösen. Talen är utgivna anonymt av Daniel Heinsius.

Slightly worn contemporary full calf, spine gilt with raised band and rubbed red label, marbled boards, tears on top of spine. Owner’s signature Schröder on title, crossed over with ink. From the library of Fredrik von Friesendorff, with his engr. bookplate. This classic and important work on diplomats and diplomatic skill was first published in The Hague in 1680-81. This is the expanded Marteau-edition from 1690. The Dutchman Abraham de Wicquefort (1606-1682) is the first author whose focus was on the actual diplomatic practise. “The purpose of this work was to describe what an envoy does and how he should conduct himself. He was on the threshold of a new development and gave the literature on diplomacy a new orientation”. Wicquefort was from 1642 Brandenburg’s diplomat in Paris but was imprisoned by Cardinal Mazarin in 1659 and expelled in 1660. He stayed in The Hague but was in 1679 imprisoned for life for high treason and he wrote “L'ambassadeur et ses Fonctions” in prison. Beside this book and a history of the Netherlands, he also translated the travels by Olearius into French.

Välbevarat samtida skinnband, ryggen med upphöjda bind och med blindpressade pärmar, röda och blå snitt. Collijn sp. 97. Warmholtz 4250. Sista blanka bladet saknas. Fint exemplar av första upplagan. En ny, och försämrad, upplaga utkom i Strassburg 1679. Den andra pagineringsföljden innehåller med nytt titelblad fredsfördraget mellan Kristina och Kristian IV 1645, Brömsebrofreden. Detta är Boeclerus huvudarbete i svensk historia och hans främsta prestation som svensk rikshistoriograf. Det utgavs dock postumt av Johan Bergenhielm, som försåg det med fredstraktaten och ett register. Johann Heinrich Boeclerus (1611-72) var tysk historiker och från år 1637 professor i vältalighet i Strassburg. Som sådan introducerade han den unge Schefferus i studiet av klassikerna. Han kallades av drottning Kristina till den skytteanska professuren i Uppsala 1647, men avböjde och rekommenderade istället Schefferus. 1649 kom han ändå till Sverige och Uppsala som professor i vältalighet och 1651 utnämndes han till rikshistoriograf. Han stannade dock endast till 1652, då han återvände till Strassburg och professorsstolen i historia.

Slightly worn contemporary half calf with richly gilt spine, raised bands and dark green label, gilt green cloth boards. Setterwall 536. A parallel edition was published in Dorpat the same year. Fine copy. C. F. H Kruse (1790-1866) was a German-Baltic historian, professor in Dorpat and specialised in the old geography and history of the Eastern Baltic states. Apart from this work is his main works ”Necrolivonica oder alterthümer Liv-, Est- und Kurlands”, from 1842, and ”Deutsche Altertümer", from 1824-29.

Includes with separate title leaf: ”Verbundnuß mit der hochlöblichsten Kron Schweden, und deren freyen Reichs Ritterschafft”, dated aptil 15 1633.

Contemporary half calf, spine blind stamped and with raised bands, worn marbled boards, red marbled edges. Minor worn holes at spine. Title page with cut out owner’s signature. From the library of Eugéne Lewenhaupt, with his book plate and the note on the fly-leaf that he bought it in Stockholm at an auction in 1888. Warmholtz 6076. First edition. A second augmented edition was published in 1728. Curt Friedrich von Wreech was enrolled in the Swedish army in 1706, and become a Russian prisoner of war after the battle of Pultava in 1709. He was transfered to Tobolsk in Siberia, where he in 1714 started the famous Swedish school for the children to the Swedish prisoners of war. His account is one of our major sources to the knowledge of the situation for the Swedish prisoners in Siberia during the early decades of the 18th-century.

An Italian translation made by Ercole Carrillo from the French original ”Plan de Pompéi et remarques sur ses édifices”, published in Naples in 1828. Andrea De Jorio (1769-1851) was a distinguised Italian antiquarian working in Napels, from 1811 curator at Real Museo della Galleria dei Vasi in Naples. He wrote several works on the finds from Pompeii and Herculaneum, mostly on the frescos. Today he is perhaps most known for his studies on Body language, which he conducted by comparing the ancient frescos with the street life in his contemporary Naples, ”La mimica degli antichi investigata nel gestire napoletano” (1832).

Elzevir, sharing the costs. It is considered a beautiful edition but not accurate.

Det första arbetet är översatt till danskan av Werner Hans Frederik Abrahamson. Originalet utkom på franska i Köpenhamn samma år, ”Mémoires sur la campagne de 1788 en Suède”, och översattes förutom till danska även till tyska, engelska och svenska. Karl av Hessen (1744-1836) var militär i dansk tjänst. Han ledde det danska fälttåget mot Sverige 1788, då Danmark gick in i kriget på Rysslands sida. Han tågade genom Bohuslän och befann sig strax utanför Göteborg med sina trupper då ett stilleståndsavtal slöts. Han var även en flitig frimurare.

Den första av de tre (2 enligt Lidén) avhandlingar som ventilerades under Gavelius, och den enda i folioformat. Petrus Gavelius, adlad Cederschiöld, (1625-97) var juris professor i Uppsala och hade även att föreläsa i folkrätt, d.v.s. i praktiken över Hugo Grotius skrifter. Under 1650-talet utbröt en tvist mellan honom och Johannes Schefferus. Gavelius anklagade Schefferus för att “förföra ungdomen”, genom att i en disputation om de romerska kungarna efter Livius, ha prisat den hedniske Romulus, och predikat att det är rätt att döda kungar, skända jungfrur m.m. Schefferus svarade med att försöka stoppa denna avhandling om Grotius, bl.a. genom att utsätta dess latin för bitter kritik. Hyltenius hämnades året därpå genom att baktala en under Schefferus ventilerad avhandling. Nils Hyltenius (1635-1702), 1686 adlad Silfverskiöld, blev professor och akademirektor i Lund. Han är idag även känd för sin dagbok under Malmö belägring 1676.

Bound by the bookbinder Jeremiah Larkins (1833-1907), with his stamp. The folding maps are ”Chart of the West Indies with the adjacent Coast of South America showing the tracks of Don Christopher Columbus” and ”Chart shewing the tracks across the North Atlantic Ocean of Don Christoph Columbus”.

Duchess Laure Junot Abrabantès (1785-1838) was married to the napoleonic general Jean-Andoche Junot and member of the leading society during a long time. Her memoires was first published in 18 volumes in 1831-35. ”After 1815 she spent most of her time at Rome amidst artistic society, which she enlivened with her sprightly converse; a monarchist on her return to Paris during the Restoration, she compiled her spirited but somewhat spiteful Memoirs with the encouragement and supervision of Balzac, her lover since 1828”.

Moscow, Gosudarstvennoe aviatsionnoe i avtotraktornoe izdatel’stvo, 1932. 8:o. 80 pp. Illustrated. Sewn as issued, spine with tears and some loss of paper at top, paper loss also in bottom corner of front cover, dog ears on the first leaves, a few minor tears. Compiled in the author’s home town by ”Kalužskaja jubilejnaja komissija po čestvovanijo K. E. Tsiolkovskogo” (The Kaluga jubilee committee for the celebration of K. E. Tsiolkovsky) and printed in 2500 copies. This anthology begins with a short autobiography by Tsiolkovsky which is followed by a number of biographical sketches by other authors. Several congratulatory letters are also reprinted here, as well as Tsiolkovsky’s jubilee lecture ”Zvezdoplavanie” (our rough translation: A voyage to the stars).
