House of Liars (Italian Menzogna e sortilegio - Dansk: Løgn og trolddom) is a novel by the Italian writer Elsa Morante published in 1948, set in Southern Italy at the turn of the 20th century, describing a family's escape from increasingly dire financial and social circumstances into wishful thinking and delusions. The narrative covers three generations of a family in decline, blending elements of the fairy tale as well as the social novel and the coming-of-age-story.

For many years he had been a professor of Greek at Harvard University. His most important work was his Syntax of the Moods and Tenses of the Greek Verb (1860), of which the seventh revised edition appeared in 1877 and another (enlarged) in 1890. This was ""based in part on Madvig and Krüger,"" but, besides making accessible to American students the works of these continental grammarians, it presented original matter, including a ""radical innovation in the classification of conditional sentences,"" notably the ""distinction between particular and general suppositions.""

Oversat og bearbejdet af Kai Larsen og Bertel Hansen. Illustreret i farver. Carl Axel Magnus Lindman (6. april 1856 i Halmstad - 21. juni 1928 i Stockholm) var en svensk botaniker. Han er især kendt for 10-bindsværket Nordens Flora (1901-05), som blev oversat til dansk. Lindman tog licentiateksamen fra Uppsala Universitet i 1884 med botanik og zoologi som hovedfag. Fra 1905-1923 var han professor ved den botaniske afdeling på Sveriges naturhistoriska Riksmuseum. Lindman var en meget dygtig plantetegner, hvilket han udnyttede både til at illustrere sine afhandlinger og til tavleværket Bilder ur Nordens Flora (1901-05) med omkring 650 farveplancher. Lindman samlede og ordnede Carl von Linnés efterladte herbarier og skrev flere afhandlinger om Linné.

Carl) Johan Wilhelm Madsen (22. marts 1855 i København - 16. april 1938 sammesteds) var en dansk maler, kunsthistoriker og museumsdirektør. Karl Madsen var søn af dyremaler, kaptajn A.P. Madsen og hustru, maleren Sophie Madsen, født Thorsøe, tog præliminæreksamen (Sorø Akademi) 1871, var elev af Vilhelm Kyhn, elev på Kunstakademiet (1872-76) og af Jean-Léon Gérôme på Académie des Beaux-Arts i Paris (1876-79). Han udstillede første gang 1880, men fra 1895 var Madsen knyttet til Statens Museum for Kunst, hvor han blev assistent, museumsinspektør (1900) og slutteligt direktør i tidsrummet 1911-1925. Madsen var talsmand for, at dansk kunst fulgte i sporene på den nylige europæiske udvikling. Han opgav sit eget virke som kunstner og helligede sig helt og holdent kunstkritikken, hvor han blev fortaler for moderne fransk kunst.
