Louis de Rouvroy, duc de Saint-Simon, GE ( 16 January 1675 - 2 March 1755), was a French soldier, diplomat, and memoirist. He was born in Paris at the Hôtel Selvois, 6 rue Taranne (demolished in 1876 to make way for the Boulevard Saint-Germain). The family's ducal peerage (duché-pairie), granted in 1635 to his father Claude de Rouvroy (1608-1693), served as both perspective and theme in Saint-Simon's life and writings. He was the second and last Duke of Saint-Simon. His enormous memoirs are a classic of French literature, giving the fullest and most lively account of the court at Versailles of Louis XIV and the Régence at the start of Louis XV's reign.

Taschen. 2013. 684+88p.Sider. Full goldillustrated shirting + softback in a slipcase. Very nice copy. Large format. (30,4x22x6x5 cm) - 3,2 kg. Timetunnel to the 15th century: 1493's must-have history book and city guide by Hartmann Schedel Hartmann Schedel&;s Weltchronik, or Chronicle of the World (better known today as the Nuremberg Chronicle, after the German city in which it was created), was a groundbreaking encyclopedic work and at the time the most lavishly illustrated book ever printed in Europe. Both a historical reference work and a contemporary inventory of urban culture at the end of the 15th century, the Chronicle was to have a remarkable influence on the cultural, ecclesiastical and intellectual history of the Middle Ages. It was particularly notable for its vast quantity of woodcut illustrations (more than 1,800) depicting events from the Bible, human monstrosities, portraits of kings, queens, saints and martyrs, and allegorical pictures of miracles, as well as views of a great number of ""modern"" cities, many of which had never been documented before. Today, copies of the Chronicle sell for up to 800,000 dollars; we?ve procured a rare hand-colored copy, true to the original in every respect, and created a complete facsimile of utmost quality. In case you don`t read Early Modern High German, the comprehensive booklet, with summaries of the book?s main stories, provides a user-friendly way to explore this amazing historical masterpiece.

Halvlæder (half calf/demi-veau) Meget smukt.(very nice/plus beau) - Lavigne , Paris 1843, In-8 (15 x 23,5 cm), 522pp., relié. - Edition originale de la nouvelle traduction française de Christian, illustrée en premier tirage de 8/10 hors-texte par Gavarni sur bois (træsnit/woodcuts 2 are missing) - Paul Gavarni was the pen name of Sulpice Guillaume Chevalier (13 January 1804 - 24 November 1866), a French illustrator, born in Paris. etde multiples vignettes, lettrines, culs-de-lampe par le même. Préface sur Hoffmann par Christian. E.T.A. Hoffmann; 24 January 1776 - 25 June 1822) was a German Romantic author of fantasy and Gothic horror, a jurist, composer, music critic and artist. His stories form the basis of Jacques Offenbach's opera The Tales of Hoffmann, in which Hoffmann appears (heavily fictionalized) as the hero. He is also the author of the novella The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, on which Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker is based. The ballet Coppélia is based on two other stories that Hoffmann wrote, while Schumann's Kreisleriana[4] is based on Hoffmann's character Johannes Kreisler. Hoffmann's stories highly influenced 19th-century literature, and he is one of the major authors of the Romantic movement. 568s.Sider. Mørkebrunt hellæderbind m. lysebrunt titelfelt Et meget smukt og rent eksemplar. Kiøbenhavn, tryckt hos Ludolph Heinrich Lillie 1757. TEKST på DANSK og FRANSK. First edition, 4to, [2], 16 & 568pp., parallel text in double column. Dictionary of Danish proverbs, with French translation. The proverbs were probably collected by Jean Meyer. Petersen: Den danske Literaturs Historie, III, 1855-56, s. 536 f.).

The book is structured as a series of loosely connected vignettes, intended by Burroughs to be read in any order. The novel follows the junkie William Lee, who takes on various aliases, from the U.S. to Mexico, eventually to Tangier and the dreamlike Interzone. The novel was highly controversial, and its supposed obscenity led to a series of high-profile legal challenges. The novel remains divisive, but both admirers and critics recognize it as one of the defining works of the Beat generation. In 1957, Allen Ginsberg submitted the Naked Lunch manuscript to Olympia Press, which had a reputation for publishing controversial novels such as Tropic of Cancer and Lolita. Olympia rejected the manuscript, arguing that it was inaccessible and lacked structure.
