Slottet uppfördes 1626-1640 och moderniserades på 1660-talet; den 24 november 1913 brann det ned. På 1500-talet var Tärnö ett slott ägt av Joakim Brahe, där Gustav Vasa gömde sig under Stockholms blodbad 1520.
