(Landkort/Maps). * Dekorativt kort over Nyborg og byens omegn. På kortet er indtegnet en plan over troppernes udgangsplacering i slaget ved Nyborg 14. november 1659. Det blodige slag blev et af de danske lyspunkter i de ellers så dystre Svenskekrige og afgjorde striden om herredømmet på Fyn. På kortet er indtegnet odden med Slipshavn samt herregården Ellensborg, det nuværende Holckenhavn.

En meget smuk rejsebog om det nære naboland, som trods al studenterskandinavistisk begejstring stadig var nyt for de fleste danskere anno 1851. I bogens berømte sidste kapitel »Poesiens Californien« formulerer H.C. Andersen sin poetik.

Old ink stamp on titlepage and on last leaf. * The most famous direct German antagonist of Luther. The Dominican monk Johann Tetzel from Leipzig (1465-1519) specialized in the selling of indulgences, cancellations of all or part of punishments for sins, for the living as well as for the deceased. Though not the only one selling them, he particularly drew the ire of Martin Luther, and when the pope only condoned and defended the sales tours, it propelled Luther to launch his 95 theses in 1517, starting the Reformation.

Slight foxing, mainly to the first pages. * First edition of this fine piece of illustrated history. Including the "naughty" woodcuts of young Friedrich's (not yet the Great) participation in a masquerade in Dresden (p. 44-45). The two woodcuts were banned and removed in the later impressions.

Between 1940 - 1943 he played in Lionel Hampton's band, and went on to play in bands with, amongst others, Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie.

Rebound untrimmed in modern brown clothbacked boards. Armorial bookplate on verso of flyleaf. The bookblock is printed on high-quality paper. * First edition came 1823 and is identical to this edition. Parts of the pagination in the first chapters have been changed from Arab into Roman numerals. A. Andersen Feldborg was a Dane living in England right from the beginning of the 19th century. He made large efforts to open his new countrymens' eyes for the qualities of his native country, despite the Anglo-Danish wars of 1801 and 1807-14. Among the artists behind the plates are C.W. Eckersberg, the founder of Danish Golden Age painting.
