He was also the teacher of Frederik II (the Great).

Zevin "From his Library of Books about Books") and to free endpaper (Sunil Saigal). * A native of Ukraine, Zevin (1901-1984) moved to the US early in his life. He succesfully managed the World Publishing Company in Cleveland to a position as one of the largest in the country.

Gl. navn (Johannes Fibiger) på forsatsbladet. * Smukt eksemplar af den første danske udgave af Darwins hovedværk. Bogen vakte umådelig opsigt på grund af lanceringen af menneskets udvikling gennem æoners evolution og ikke som foreskrevet i kirkens kreationistiske verdensbillede. Oversætteren skrev i samme periode på det, der skulle blive et af dansk litteraturs mest udsøgte skønlitterære forfatterskab. Moderne gennembrud på alle hylder. ** Johannes Fibiger (1867-1928) var læge og fra 1900 til sin død professor i patologi. Fra 1925 til 1926 var han rektor for Københavns Universitet. Fibiger forskede i kræft og modtog Nobelprisen i Medicin/Fysiologi i 1926.

Slight edgewear to corners. * Attractive set of this interesting account on Sweden, written by the British ambassador to the court of Queen Kristina. Bulstrode became a confident conversation partner to the strange, both intelligent and flamboyant queen and happened to be among the first to learn of her planning to abdicate and convert to the Catholic Church.

Near fine condition. * Number 23 of only 150 copies printed. Inscribed by Prince Henrik to Wava Armfeldt on the half-titlepage. ** In 1967 the French count and diplomat Henri de Monpezat married the crown princess of Denmark. In 1972, when his spouse became Margrethe II, reigning Queen of Denmark, he became Henrik, Danish Prince Consort. Henrik, being an able amateur pianist and poet, first tried his hand in publication with the current volume, beautifully printed on handmade paper at Poul Kristensen, by many considered the finest book printer in Denmark at the time. It was limited to only 150 copies, all of which were offered as gifts to close friends of the Royal Family.

Reelt er bogen Danmarks første biblioteksvejviser, udarbejdet af præsten og litteraten Albert Thura (1700-40) i løbet af knap fem år på Borchs Kollegium i København. Albert Thura er særdeles opdateret på sin samtid: Ludvig Holberg optræder i 4 sammenhænge; på side 355 oplyses det, at Holberg er den samme som Hans Mikkelsen (Joh. Michaelis) og er ophavsmand til Peder Paars, Fire Skiemte-Digte og Zille Hans-Datters Gynaicologia.

Underskevet 'Mange Eder og Hilsner/ din hengivne Tom K'. * Herligt overgearet og morsomt brev fra den unge Tom Kristensen i, adresseret til 'Ppeter Chr.' (!) [redaktør, skribent og bogsamler Peter Christiansen (1899-1976)]. Der tales om panik ved satsprøver, om at gå ud og spise 'Fåresygebaciller', og om bøvlet ved at være bestyrelsesmedlem i 'Litterært Samfund'. De skal have Ludvig Holstein forbi og tale om sin bog 'Æbletid', men TK skriver om at få tigget nogle eksemplarer af Gyldendal, da de ikke har råd til at få eksemplarer af bogen hjem: '[...] jeg synes, det ser så trist ud i Antikvarboghandlernes Vinduer, og i min egen Lomme. Det skulde helst blomstre begge Steder'. Hvor har han ret!

Doublepaged frontespiece engraving + double page title leaf [with heraldic bookplate to the verso] + (12)+336+216 pages + two foldable charts. Contemporary full vellum binding. Title in ink to the spine. Small damage to the lower part of the spine. Inner board with a contemporary name. A tiny, practically undetectable hole to the plate. A bit of edgewear. Traces after a label to the upper board. * Reichsabschied (Imperial Recess), in Latin recessus imperii, was the totality of the regulations discussed and issued at a Reichstag of the Holy Roman Empire, which the Emperor had to read out at the end. The frontespiece engraving shows a 17th century Imperial Diet (Reichstag).
