Today, he is still remembered for his neverending 'Möbius-strip' - a non-orientable surface.

One plate in b/w inserted in rear depicts inscriptions in the Sct. Cathrine monastery in Sinai. Folding map in b/w showing Egypt also inserted in rear. Later quarter leather with spine in five compartments and lettering in gilt. Some wear to spine and corners. Light edgewear Foxing to illustrations and neighbouring pages, including tissue-guard (no foxing to illustrations in text). * Richard Lepsius (1810-1884) was a German scholar of Greek and Egyption archaeology. He travelled widely and made numerous connections in Europe. His expedition to Egypt was inspired by the earlier one carried out by Napoleon. His party of varoious specialists discovered several pyramids, untill then unknown to Western society. His chief publication was the Denkmäler aus Aegypten und Aethiopien' published in 1849. He continued into a professorship in Rome and later head of the Royal Library in Berlin and published widely.

Efter skuffelser og frustration i forbindelse med sin deltagelse i krigen 1864 og i Den fransk-tyske Krig søgte Karen Blixens og Thomas Dinesens far til grænselandet mellem USA og Canada, hvor han levede som pelsjæger. En velskrivende eventyrer i sit rette element. Navnet Boganis fik han af indianerne i området, som han kom fint ud af det med.

Godt, solidt eksemplar. * Den utrættelige polyhistor Erik Pontoppidan, der i slutningen af 1730rne var biskop i Århus, har her indsamlet en guldgrube af indskrifter fra ligsten rundt om i de danske kirker. Meget er gået til siden på grund af vanrøgt og brande, så i adskillige tilfælde er værket her den eneste dokumentation af dette vigtige genealogiske materiale. Værket er i øvrigt et stykke Holbergiana, idet det er et af blot to bøger, hvor Ludvig Holberg som censor har fået anført sit trykte imprimatur.

Povl Christensen kunne som tilrettelægger binde billeder og typografi sammen, så denne bog kom til at stå som en af de smukkeste og mest helstøbte ikke blot i hans produktion, men i dansk bogkunst overhovedet."
