Contemporary full calf bindings with richly gilt spine and heraldic insignia on boards. Hinges on volume 1 a bit weak and broken, but still holding. Spine-ends a bit frayed. Slight edgewear and rubbing. * David Dalrymple, Lord Hailes, 3rd Baronet of Hailes (1726 -1792) is known for his Annals of which the first volume appeared in 1776 and the second in 1779. This is a new edition of the work in three volumes published five years after his death.

Bound in a lovely blue half calf binding, spine richly gilt with five raised bands (slightly, but evenly faded). Three edges gilt. Interior crisp and clean except for very slight soiling and darkening to the halftitle. Two bookplates inserted. The original red cloth with blindtooled borders on both boards and gilt decoration has been turned into a wonderful slipcae for the book. The binding and slipcase are signed by the Danish master bookbinder Anker Kyster. * First edition, fourth state of the title vignette [Eckel p. 122]. The fourth of Dickens' five Christmas stories. A very charming copy indeed.

Bookplate inserted. * First editions. Not easily found bound together in a contemporary binding, as there would be 17 years between the two editions.

Indbundet ubeskåret med originalt for- og bagomslag og rygstribe i elegante uniforme halvbind af lysebrunt kalveskind med rygfelter af olivengrønt skind (Juul-Lassen). Ryggene svagt falmet. * Smukt sæt! Da Johannes V. Jensen i 1908 udsendte Bræen, var han sig ikke bevidst, at han her lagde grunden til en saga om den europæiske, eller rettere nordiske, del af menneskehedens historie fra urtid til renæssance. Først da Christopher Columbus forelå i 1922, fremtrådte de seks romaner med en samlet bærende idé - og med en ganske anderledes rækkefølge end udgivelsestidspunkterne. I 1938 redigerede Aage Marcus i samråd med Jensen de 6 romaner sammen til et sammenhængende værk. Mere end noget andet var det denne sprogligt virtuose saga, der i 1944 indbragte Jensen Nobelprisen.
