Pritchard was a protagonist of the International Modern Movement in Britain and set up the Isokon furniture company for which Gropius and Breuer designed. After the Second World War he became director of the Furniture Development Council. The book also tells the story of the origins of the famous Lawn Road Flats which Pritchard commissioned from Wells Coates. Includes 15 pp. introduction by Fiona McCarthy.

Cracks had appeared in parts of Saint Paul's Cathedral in London and, after various investigations, fears culminated on Christmas Eve 1924 in the Corporation of London's serving of a dangerous structure notice to the Dean. The Cathedral was subsequently closed from 1925 to 1930 while the piers and dome were strengthened.
