Antikvariat Antiqua

(Stockholm 1963). 30x21. 68 pp. + three folding town plans (two coloured). Ca 35 town plans, perspective drawings and photos in the text. Pictorial wrappers, an excellent copy. A crucial document of modern Stockholm townplanning. Before 1962, the renewal of Stockholm's central city district had been carried out according to a series of section plans. In 1962 a comprehensive redevelopment plan for the entire district was prepared, and the 1963 publication describing the scheme differs markedly from its precursors inasmuch as it was designed and written with the general public in view. Contrary to expectations, it attracted great attention and aroused vehement criticism, with headlines like "Demolishing the City" in the large morning papers, and an open letter of protest signed by twenty-nine persons was addressed to the City Council. A fatal decision was made in November 1963 by the City Council who accepted the plan (with some revisions) after a prolonged debate.
