Stockholm 1900. 27x18. XII+128 pp. + 14 photo plates + 3 plates with plans. A fine copy in publisher's gilt-lettered, pictorial grey cloth. Inscribed by the author. The history, development and achievements of the pioneering workers' housing company "Stockholms Arbetarehem" - Stockholm Workers' Home(s) - written by its founder and manager. Miss Lagerstedt was a school teacher who, appalled by workers' housing standards in Stockholm, went to London to study the reform work of Octavia Hill (described in the book). Back in Stockholm she took up her abode as deputy landlord in a notoriously bad housing block, to organise reform work along the same principles. When the block was to be wrecked, she founded the Stockholms Arbetarehem which erected a new building which included library, assembly-room, bakery, co-operative shop, etc. Her management policy based upon a personal relationship between the tenants and herself was a great success, and the company served as a model for a number of similar housing enterprises.
