Författaren (som hette Lars men skrev under namnet Lorenzo) var konst- och litteraturhistoriker och kritiker, och tjänstgjorde från 1806 vid Kungliga Biblioteket i Stockholm. Sidorna 388-439 behandlar den svenska konsthistorien.

Katalogen till en vandringsutställning som hölls på svenska muséer och konsthallar åren 1968-70. Med en uttalat socialistisk agenda uppmärksammades och kritiserades västvärldens, Sveriges och svenskt näringslivs roll i ett postkolonialistiskt förtryck, med illustrationer av bl.a. Ulf Rahmberg, Lena Svedberg och Lars Hillersberg. Utställningen väckte animerad debatt och beskrevs på Svenska Dagbladets ledarsida som "ytterst extrem kommunistpropaganda finansierad av svenska folket".

Clason, L.I. Wahlman, Ragnar Östberg, Ivar Tengbom, Carl Bergsten, Torben Grut, med flera. Boken är utpräglat engelskorienterad med framför allt Baillie Scott och Voysey som förebilder, och Brunius gör en omtolkning för svenska förhållanden av Ruskins teori i "The poetry of Architecture".
