Robert Lyall (1790-1831) spent a number of years in Moscow as physician to several noble families. He travelled through the Crimea, Georgia and the southern provinces of Russian in 1822, and returned to London in 1823 where he published his important work that includes a fine folding view of the Kremlin palace from the river.

He published his major findings from the expedition in 1771-76, under the title; Reise durch verschiedene Provinzen des Russischen Reichs, in three volumes. Provenance: Gustaf Oscar Ludvig (Gösta) Nobel (1886-1955), youngest son of Ludvig and Edla Nobel, was in Baku between 1914-17 and later took over as Managing Director over Brannobel or “The Nobel Brothers Company”. The oil company was founded in Baku by his father and his two brothers Alfred and Robert. The family had to flee Russia in 1918 during the Russian revolution.

All of the artist’s lithographs are reproduced in colours after the originals. Følgende var innvolvert i oversettelsen under lang tid: Pehr Fjellström (1697-1764), Nathanael Fjellström (1739-1809), Samuel Öhrling (1747-1799), Emanel Öhrling (1751-1808) og Erik Johan Grönlund (1787-1819). De opprinnelige omslagene og ryggstripene med tittelen “Fra Kristiania-Bohêmen” medbundet. Med det ekstra tittelbladet Julefortællinger Første Del innsatt foran det opprinnelige tittelbladet. Annen Del foreligger i annet trykk hvorav bla side 334 er feilpaginert side 234. Uten det ekstra tittelbladet til Julefortællinger Andre Del. Omslagene med noen små forsterkninger. Ex libris på forsats i begge bind. Schiötz/Ringstrøm, variant C.. . Da “Fra Kristiania-Bohemen” ble beslaglagt hadde Jæger liggende på et loft 300 eksemplarer av 1. del uten tilsvarende 2 del. Han fikk boktrykker Christian Holtermann Knudsen til å trykke 2. del på nytt i 350 eksemplarer og trykke nye tittelblad og omslag. De nye tittelbladene med tittel “ Julefortællinger af H. J.” ble satt inn foran de gamle tittelbladene. Knudsen reiste i desember 1886 med bøkene til Göteborg og Stockholm for å selge dem der. Bøkene ble imidlertid allerede 11. januar 1887 beslaglagt etter ordre av den svenske justitsminister Nils henrik Vult von Steyern. En del eksemplarer ble også beslaglagt hos en bokbinder i Kristiania og senere konfiskert. Se Thuesen s. 141.
