The architect's own account of the Reichssportfeld complex built in Berlin 1934-36, with a photographic survey. In 1931, Berlin hade been made the host of the 1936 Summer Olympics. When the Nazis came to power in 1933, they decided to use the Olympic Games for propaganda purposes, and Hitler ordered the construction of a great complex named the Reichssportfeld with a new Stadium and other edifices.

Although designated "Band 1" on cover and last page, this volume, delineating the development of domestic architecture in the United States up to the beginning of the 20th century, was the only one to appear of a work planned according to the same principles (and sub-title) as Muthesius's 'Das Englishe Haus'.

Former owners' names on front endpaper, the first dated Edinburg 1935, the second by Eva von Zweigbergk dated Stockholm 1960. Splendid survey of some 120 modern villas, with more than 85 examples of ultramodern 'International Style'. Although some of the famous exponents of this style are represented, the strength of the book is the inclusion of prominent Modernist architects of lesser fame, including thirty-eight from Britain as well as examples from France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Greece, Iceland, Norway, the USA, Australia, Japan, and South Africa. The text is written in Charles Kay Odgen's Basic English with its vocabulary of only 850 core words.
