An important document on the statue of Aphrodite from Milos (Vénus de Milo), based upon a conversation held in 1847 between the architect Charles Doussault, and Louis Brest who witnessed the discovery of the statue. The Vénus de Milo was unearthed by Olive Vauthier, an ensign on the French naval schooner "Estafette", when the ship stopped in 1820 at the island of Milos in the Aegean Sea. Vauthier brought Louis Brest, the French vice-consul on Milos, to see what he had found. The folding plates are fascimiles of drawings, made with the aid of Brest and confirmed by him, of the statue in its original setting and the site where it was found.
