Loose as issued in a printed cloth-backed portfolio with tie-strings, exterior slightly rubbed and darkened, some of the plates worn in margins. "2. Auflage". The plates only, without the text volume, of this work published by a renowned garden designer who was Gartenbaudirektor of the Kingdom of Saxony (Sachsen). The garden plans and bird's-eye perspectives include the Thürmsdorf and Bockstadt Schloss-Gärten and other private gardens in i.a. Dresden, Leibniz, Graz in Steyermark and Riga as well as Pension-Kurgärten, a children's playground in Blasewitz, and a garden for the German Town Building Exhibition in Dresden 1903.

Enclosed is an inserted handwritten letter (35 lines) from Balle to Hellman, and four leaves with original linocuts (ca 24x11), three of them signed "Mogens Balle 1959" on reverse, lightly stained but all but one in margin only. In the letter the artist discusses a forthcoming exhibition for which Gunnar Hellman shall write the catalogue introduction, and the enclosed linocuts are suggestions for illustrations in the catalogue.

Printed wrappers; front wrapper and pagination in Bauhaus style typography. A fine copy with minor traces of handling. On inside of front wrapper neatly inscribed in ink "Gunnar Jungmarker 1932" (Swedish art scholar and art critic). At top of the inside of rear wrapper there is a pencil inscription "Gummeson 1.50" in Jungmarker's handwriting. Kandinsky had been exhibiting at the Gummeson art gallery in Stockholm in 1916 and 1922, and this 1930 publication may well have been for sale there.
