Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir33839
Verlag fur moderne Kunst Nurnberg, 2012. Small red hardcover. 176 pages. Multilingual. With illustrations. Fine / as new copy. In 1932, Marcel Duchamp published Opposition and Sister Squares Are Reconciled, a collaboration with chess champion Vitaly Halberstadt on endgames in chess. Ernst Strouhal's illustrated study approaches this volume as an "almost utopian treatise on chess endgames" and as a trilingual artist's book. Strouhal playfully yet validly demonstrates how Opposition and Sister Squares are Reconciled by M. Duchamp & V. Halberstadt (1932) not only comprises a rare, almost utopian treatise on chess endgames but is also a unique chess book for artists and an artist’s book for chess players.

"In PLEASE BE HERE NOW, Dwelling #1: The Body, the main theme of exploration was the performers own, female body – as private, public and artistic material. Nana Francisca Schottländer lived for three days and nights, 72 hours, in the shop window of Nørgaard Store in central Copenhagen, where she performed everyday chores like sleeping, reading, eating, drinking, thinking – being. While being there she challenged the spectator’s gaze by looking as much at the people passing by and stopping, as they looked at her. The piece created a platform for shared reflections and encounters and was visited by people of all ethnicities, ages, social groups and background at all times of the day and night. During her stay, invited guests joined her in her dwelling to share their thoughts on the body as professional and personal point of reference." - The book incluides an interview by Michael Thouber, head of Kunsthal Charlottenborg with Nana Francisca Schottländer and Mads Nørgaard about the piece, an introduction by Torben Sangild and photos by Casper Sejersen, Alexandra Buhl, David Morrow and Georg Jagunov. Excerpts from the text generated throughout the piece are also included. Each book is numbered by hand and signed by the artist (# 364).

DAVIS, Miles. - Cook, Richard:
Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir59696
Oxford University Press, 2007 (Atlantic Books 2005). Publishers hardcover, w jacket. VIII, 373 pp. Fine clean copy. A "biography-cum-discography that focuses in turn on fourteen major albums recorded by Miles Davis, using them as a jumping off point for an illuminating discussion of the turbulent life and work of the "Evil Genius of Jazz." Richard Cook, a veteran writer respected throughout the jazz world, looks at such landmark recordings as Birth of the Cool, Miles Ahead, Kind of Blue, The Complete Live at The Plugged Nickel, In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, and Live at Montreux. Each of these recordings is considered in detail, illuminating their contribution to Davis's development as instrumentalist, group leader, and composer. But Cook goes well beyond these fourteen albums, evaluating all the trumpeter's recordings (official and bootleg), and relating them to events in Miles's life as well as to wider currents in contemporary music."

kir55381
Berlin: Bom Dia Boa Tarde Boa Noite, 2015 / 2016. 4to. 200 pages. Illustrated throughout. Unopened in plastic as issued. Artist book. First edition. "Winckelmann’s book was published on the 100-year anniversary of the constitutional amendment of 1915 that allowed women as well as other ‘non-owning citizens’ to vote. The assemblages of one-handed tools resting on top of magazines for men, women, transgender, hetero, gay, etc., makes for a metonymic commentary on the underlying categorizations that allow political disenfranchisement – and at the same time points to the possibility of the unintended alliances that arise from such categorization. Consisting of 50 double-sided, unbound A3 sheets, the book can be dissembled and reassembled at will, making it into a malleable, shifting photographic multitude in red tinted and monochrome. "

Guggenheim Museum, 2008. 8vo in publishers hardcover, no jacket as issued. 254 pages. Illustrated in color. Some edgewear to bootom edge and lower corners, else well preserved and clean copy. 1st edition. "During the 1990s a number of artists claimed the exhibition as their medium. Working independently or in various collaborative constellations, they eschewed the individual object in favor of the exhibition environment as a dynamic arena, ever expanding its physical and temporal parameters. For these artists an exhibition can comprise a film, a novel, a shared meal, a social space, a performance or a journey. Their work engages directly with the vicissitudes of everyday life, offering subtle moments of transformation. This catalogue, which accompanies a major exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, is the first in the U.S. to examine the dynamic interchange among a core group of these artists -- Angela Bulloch, Maurizio Cattelan, Liam Gillick, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Douglas Gordon, Carsten Höller, Pierre Huyghe, Jorge Pardo, Philippe Parreno and Rirkrit Tiravanija -- a many-sided conversation that helped shape the cultural landscape of the 1990s and beyond." (publisher) With a plethora of illustrative essays.
