Kjøbenhavn., 1841. Orig. bogtrykt papbd. i usædvanligt god stand.

RYDBERG, J.R. (JOHANNES ROBERT). - REVISION OF THE PERIODIC SYSTEM.
Herman H. J. Lynge & Søn A/S
lyn50387
Lund, Håkan Olssons Buckdruckerei, 1906. Lex8vo. Orig. printed wrappers. Some small nicks to edges of wrappers. 30 pp., 2 large folded tables (the periodic system). First edition of Rydberg's important revison of the periodic system. "Rydberg’s study of the periodic properties of the elements led him in 1897 to suggest that certain characteristics of the elements could be more simply organized by using an atomic number instead of the atomic weights. This atomic number was to be identified with the ordinal index of the element in the periodic table. In 1906 Rydberg stated for the first time (the paper offered) that 2, 8, and 18 (that is, 2n2, where n= 1,2,3) represented the number of elements in the early periods of the system. In 1913 he went further, correcting an earlier error about the number of rare earths from 36 to 32, thus allowing the n = 4 group to be included in the pattern." (DSB).

Kjøbenhavn, 1821 & 1837. 8vo. Two volumes, uncut unopened, uniformly bound in contemporary (original?) marbled boards with paper title-labels to spines. Spines split. Internally with occassional brownpostting. XII, 1042 pp. (4), 990 pp. + 2 engraved plates. . Third expanded edition of Hornemann’s pioneering treatise on Danish economic botany—the earliest systematic attempt to classify native Danish plants based on their practical use in agriculture, horticulture, and industry. Issued as the result of a prize essay competition held by the newly founded Naturhistorieselskab (Natural History Society), the work marked a turning point in the practical application of botanical knowledge in Denmark. Jens Wilken Hornemann (1770–1841) later became one of Denmark’s most influential botanists. Trained under Martin Vahl at the University of Copenhagen and the Naturhistorieselskab he was appointed lecturer at the Botanical Garden in 1801, and succeeded Vahl as editor of Flora Danica in 1804. Hornemann's Plantelære remained the principal Danish handbook of economic botany until Johan Lange’s mid-century publications. As such, it played a foundational role in the systematization and dissemination of applied botanical knowledge in Denmark during the Enlightenment and early 19th century.
