kir46733
London: RidingHouse, 2014. 4to. Publishers hardcover, no jackjet as issued. 432 pages, illustrated throughout. Only minimal edgewear. Clean and overall a near fine to fine copy. First edition. - Published on the occasion of "Rose English: The Eros of Understanding". Edited by Martha Fleming and Doro Globus; text by Guy Brett, scripts by Rose English, and interviews by Anne-Louise Rentell. Rose English emerged from the Conceptual art, dance and feminist scenes of 1970s Britain to become one of the most influential performance artists working today. Her uniquely interdisciplinary work combines elements of theatre, circus, opera and poetry to explore themes of gender politics, the identity of the performer and the metaphysics of presence. English has mounted performances in ice rinks; at the Royal Court Theatre and Tate Britain, London and Franklin Furnace, New York; and collaborated with horses, magicians and acrobats. This comprehensive monograph documents English’s 40-year career to date, including legendary site-specific performances and large-scale spectaculars. Accompanying many rare archival photographs and performance scripts, a major essay by Guy Brett surveys the artist’s work and times alongside interviews with two of English's closest collaborators, Sally Potter and Simon Vincenzi.

Madison, Tobias:
Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir52085
Karma, 2012. Large 4to softcover with dustjacket as issued, 96 pages, 72 color images. Fine with only most minimal shelfwear. 1st edition. - Awarded "The Most Beautiful Swiss Book" 2012. - Drawings is a collection of digital drawings created between 2008 and early 2012 by the young Swiss artist Tobias Madison. The works are based on the gestural application of software chains of command. Madison uses this formal language as work material for exhibitions, textile applications and performances. A love-hate relationship with abstraction, emptied design codes of the past decades, as well as fragments and ruins of the digital culture are interwoven into the iconography of the images. Influenced by the fast, almost spastic transition into the digital culture, Madison continually questions authorship, medium and distribution. Without ever lapsing into the prevalent cultural pessimism, Madison, in his maximum aesthetic, articulates a biting commentary on the present.

Comprehensive monograph with essays by Jessica Bradley, Sara Krajewski, Lynne Cooke, Diedrich Diederichsen, Shepherd Steiner, Cornelia Butler and Grant Arnold. Includes a biography, exhibition history, bibliography and a list of works. Published on the occasion of an exhibition organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario, which traveled to numerous venues. - From the publisher: "One of Canada's most humorous conceptual artists--as witty as he is smart--Rodney Graham gets his first North American museum retrospective and accompanying catalogue. Rodney Graham: A Little Thought tracks the career of a brilliant, idiosyncratic artist whose work spans a range of media including photography, film, book works, installation and pop music. In this volume, amply illustrated with many never-before-seen images from early in his career as well as new photography of his most recent works, scholarly essays provide a broad context for viewing: Cornelia Butler looks at Graham's relationship to landscape and Canadian identity, Lynne Cooke examines the construction of the artist's persona in works such as City Self/ Country Self (2001), and Shep Steiner discusses the joke as a conceptual strategy for Graham. Diedrich Diederichsen considers the artist's oeuvre within the context of musical structure, and Sara Krajewski describes how Graham's video works unfold. Finally, Grant Arnold offers an in-depth illustrated chronology, tracing the range of activities that have occupied Graham since his early days on the Vancouver scene.".

Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir58763
Riehen & Basel, Fondation Baeyeler. 2022. Heavy thick 4to in wraps as issued. 263 pages, illustrated. English text. Fine and unused copy. First edition. "Piet Mondrian had a decisive influence on the development of painting from figuration to abstraction. On the occasion of his 150th birthday, Mondrian Evolution is dedicated to his multifaceted work and artistic development. Initially working in the tradition of late-nineteenth century Dutch landscape painting, Symbolism and Cubism subsequently took on great significance for him. It was not until the early 1920s that the artist focused on a wholly non-representational pictorial vocabulary, concentrated on the rectangular arrangement of black lines with surfaces in white and the primary colors blue, red, and yellow. In separate chapters, this path is traced through motifs such as windmills, dunes, the sea, farms reflected in the water, and plants in various forms of abstraction".

Møhring Reestorff, Camilla:
Kirkegaards Antikvariat
kir58290
Intellect Books 2017. 8vo in wraps as issued. 344 pp. Fine clean copy. The culture wars - intertwining art, culture and politics - have sparked prominent political debates across the globe for many years, but particularly in Europe and America since 2001. Focusing specifically on the experience of Denmark during this period, Culture War aims to analyse and understand the rise of right-wing nationalism in Europe as part of the globalisation and mediatisation of the modern nation state and the culture war and affective politics arising from it. This culture war provides an example of an affective cultural politics in which institutional structures become entwined with media representations, events and patterns of belonging. Employing a detailed and critically reflective argument covering social media, television, political campaigns, advertising and 'artivism,' Camilla Mohring Reestorff refuses the traditional distinction between the world of visual culture and the political domain, and she provides multiple tools for understanding the dynamics of contemporary affective cultural politics in a highly mediatised environment.
