He found it to explode at about 100 deg. with more viollence than euchlorine."(Partington III, p. 57).Together with ROBERT PORRETT "Further analytical experiments relative to the constitution of the prussic; of the ferruretted chyazic, and of the sulphuretted chyazic acids; and of their salts; together with the application of the atomic theory to the analysis of these bodies.", pp. 220-230 a. 2 tables, one folding.

Tübingen, Max Niemeyer, 1962. 8vo. Orig. full brown cloth, original dust-jacket. A few tears to top of d-j., otherwise an excellent copy. Bdg. and internally near mint. VII, (1), 189 pp. First edition of Heidegger's important interpretation of Kant's "System aller Grundsätze des reinen Verstandes" from "Kritik der Reinen Vernunft". The work is founded on the basis of a lecture-course given by Heidegger in Freiburg in 1935-36 under the title of "Grundfragen der Metaphysik"; the work is translated into English as ""What is a Thing?" and constitutes an in part revision of the notions put forth in his "Kant und das Problem der Metaphysik"."Aus dem Umkreis der Grundfragen der Metaphysik stellen wir in dieser Vorlesung EINE Frage auf. Sie Lautet: "Was ist ein Ding?" Die Frage ist schon alt. Das stets Neue an ihr ist nur, dass sie immer wieder gefragt warden muss." (p.1).As much as this is an interpretation of Kant's notion of "thing", it equally presents us with Heidegger's own philosophy on this metaphysical question.

Mechanical-optical telegraphy had been invented by French engineer Claude Chappe in the 1790s. Gonon's system was intended to improve on Chappe's, but the rise of the electric telegraph developed by Morse in the 1840s, meant Gonon's system was never built.
