Leipzig, Weigel, 1810. 8vo. Contemp. modest hcloth with handwritten papertitle on spine. (2),CCXXXVIII,172,180,164,(2) pp. A small tear at foot of title-page repaired, no loss. Internally fine, printed on good paper. Text in Greek and Latin. Second printing (the best) of De Furia's noted edition. "Reprinted at Leipzig (the offered item), in a very handsome and more copious manner, in the following year (1810). This beautiful and elaborate editions presents us with the Fables of Æsop before they had been corrupted (as is supposd) by their first editor, Planudes. The text is taken from a celebrated and very ancient MS, preserved at Florence, in the Library of the Cassini Monks; written in a different style, and greatly departing, from the received text... This appears to be, upon the whole, the very best edition of Æsop extant." (Dibdin I, p. 252).

First printing of perhaps Humboldt's most importent paper in chemistry."In fact, immediately following this clash (the clash with Fourcroy over the vitalistic principle in organic chemistry, where Fourcroy considered "that Mr. Humboldt proceed to quickly in his explanations"), Humboldt went to Vauquelin and Fourcroy's laboratories in Paris where he sought to gain experience on the new French methodology. Thanks to this training, Humboldt wrote a memoir on the earth's absorption of oxygen that was soon to become famous (the paper offered). This memoir is also the evidence that Humboldt had joined the new way of reasoning in chemistry."(Angela Bandinella)

New York, McGraw-Hill, 1951. 8vo. In the original full cloth with gilt lettering to spine and front board. Small stamp to front free end paper, otherwise a very fine and clean copy. VII, (3), 347 pp. First edition, second impression of Katona's seminal work constituting one of the very first to advocate a rapprochement between economics and psychologists.Katona contrasted "genuine decision" and "habitual behavior". In fact, neoclassical economics deemed human decision making as genuine decision (with complete rationality), whereas evolutionary economics emphasized that economic behavior take a form of habits and customs. "Katona developed the theory and substance of psychological economics, with particular attention to the effects of national events on the confidence, expectations, plans and ultimately behaviour of masses of individual. From a background in Gestalt psychology, he noted that there can be major restructuring of the way people interpret their world and its future, leading to sometimes dramatic shifts in behaviour." (The New Palgrave).

Berlin, G. Reimer, 1840. 4to. In "Journal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik, 1840, 3 Heft". Without backstrip. Fine and clean. [Guderman:] Pp. 240-292. First printing of the second part of Gudermann's papers on modular functions and modular integrals, ideas which anticipated his 1844-book."Gudermann devoted much more attention to the theory of special functions. After the earlier works of Leonhard Euler, John Landen, and A. M. Legendre (Gauss's results were still in manuscript), Niels Abel's studies on elliptical functions, published mostly in A. L. Crelle's Journal für reine und angewandte Mathematik, represented an important divide in treating this area. In 1829 Carl Jacobi's book Fundamenta nova theoriae functionum ellipticarum was published. At the time Gudermann was one of the first mathematicians to expand on these results. Beginning with volume 6 (1830) of Crelle's Journal, he published a series of papers which he later summarized in two books: Theorie der Potenzialoder cyklisch-hyperbolischen Functionen (1833) and Theorie der Modular-Functionen und der Modular-Integrale (1844), which were to have had a sequel which was never written." The Rice distribution is an extension of the Rayleigh distribution that adds a coherent signal to the backscattered signal that underlies the Rayleigh distribution. The model is named after Stephen O. Rice who worked at Bell Labs for nearly forty years. His most famous and influential publication is the present article; in 1983 he was awarded the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal. "In 1944 and 1945, S. O. Rice published a monumental study of noise, generally regarded to be the single most useful source of information about Gaussian noise."
