First appearance of thispaper in which the authors demonstrated importent similarities between sound - and lightwaves, and that interference takes place between rays of light of different wavelenghts thus giving considerably evidence for the wave theory of light."By analyzing the white light source into simpler constituents by means of a spectroscope, Fizeau and Foucault were able to observe fringes produced by interfering light rays with a difference of travel equal to more than 7,000 wavelenghts, thus showing hat light waves, like sound waves, remain geometrically constant over a large number of periods. But light waves, because of their transverse vibrations, are more complex than sound waves. Light can assume different forms of planes of vibration as well as different intensities. Using the same spectroscopic apparatus as in the preceeding experiment, Fizeau and Foucault observed the interaction of two rays produced by passing a single polarized ray through a birefringent crystal. In this case, instead of obtaining alternating bands of light and dark, they obtained bands of light periodcally polarized in different planes of vibration."(DSB V, p. 19).

Akademie der Wissenschaften", Abteilung IIa, 124. Band, 3. und 4. Heft. A very fine and clean copy. 14 pp. First printing of Smolukowski's important paper the Average deviation in Brownian motion in relation to Brillouin's experiments on diffusion.Einstein and Smolukowski work simultaneously and independently in the beginning of the 1900ies Brownian Motion. Smolukowski continued his work in this field and he work is distinct from Einstein's since Einstein relate it to diffusion. "From about 1900 Smoluchowski worked on Brownian movement. He wished to use experimental data to verify the theory he had obtained desire complicated by the confused situation of experimental research. In the meantime Einstein, in papers of 1905 and 1906, had presented a solution to the problem. Smoluchowski then decided to publish his results in 1906, which presented his different method. Einstein started from general relations of statistical physics, an approach that was universal but did not lend itself to visualization. For example, Einstein said nothing of the collisions between a Brownian particle and the surrounding molecules. Smoluchowski started by examining the effects of successive collisions and obtained a final formula that differed little from Einstein's. Smoluchowski's further works in this field extend through an examination of the Brownian movement of a particle undergoing the influence of a quasi-elastic force to the Brownian movements of macroscopic bodies. At the Conference of Natural Scientists at Münster in 1912, Smoluchowski proposed the observation of the Brownian rotative movement of a small mirror suspended on a thin quartz fiber and the observation free end of a similar fiber. The first experiment was performed by W. Gerlach and E. Lehrer in 1927, and later by Eugen Kappler; the second, by A Houdijk and P. Zeeman, and by E. Einthoven. In 1925, Both experiments confirmed Smoluchowski's calculations."

Odense, 1774. 8vo. In contemporary full calf with four raised bands. Small paper-label pasted on to top of spine. A very nice and clean copy. (16), 208 pp. The rare first edition of Bøgh’s final publication. A few years before his death, he considered starting a weekly publication where religious teachings would be addressed in verse. He had written over a hundred sheets but lacked the money and time to publish it. Only a fragment, the present, was published. Niels Seidelin Bøgh (1717—1778) was a pastor born in Trige, Denmark. As a theological candidate, he published a large original collection of hymns titled "Den sjungende Theologus" in 1742. In 1743, Bøgh became a ship's chaplain and accompanied Danneskjold's squadron to Algiers in 1746. After his return, he wrote "Den algierske Freds Historie" (The History of the Algerian Peace) in verse. In 1747, he was appointed parish priest in Kerteminde, became district provost in 1761, and died on August 23, 1778. OCLC only list two copies, both in Copenhagen. Not in Biblioteca Danica.
