Contemporary Sweden has a diverse and thriving design and crafts community, successfully engaged in creative dialogue with the world as well as its own design heritage, a position it has also enjoyed in the past. This book charts the circumstances of this international resurgence over the last two decades, its historical perspective, and the traditions of democracy and modernity in Swedish society that Swedish design has reflected over the past century. The publication of this book goes some way to remedy a general lack of literature on Swedish design in English, at a time when, appositely, promotion of design has started to become part ofthe political agenda. lt makes no claim to be definitive, but is intended to inspire further interest, with an appendix of useful names and addresses for those who wish to know more."
